    from BT:

The deal Jones negotiated on his own behalf doesn’t guarantee him a penny. Rather, the former light-heavyweight champion is working off an upside of the pay-per-view sale. If that turns out to be in the neighborhood of the 275,000 who watched him against Antonio Tarver in their PPV fight, RJ could wind up with what looks by comparison like an opponent’s purse, but if it gets close to the 525,000 who paid to watch his heavyweight title fight against John Ruiz six years ago, he is going to look like a shrewd negotiator indeed. And if ‘Bring on the Titans’ somehow crept into Mayweather-De La Hoya territory (which it won’t) Roy Jones would wind up with the single biggest payday in boxing history.

I read it reported yesterday by another website that this did 350,000 buys.
Now Mark Taffett says 300k cable and 200k satellite and more coming.

      It's a shame.

        JOOONNNEEESSSS TIIIIIMMMEEEE!
Jones-Ruiz actually topped out at a little over 600K (the preliminary #'s were 525K). But it's ironic that you mention that fight in the same post you credit Roy for being a shrewd negotiator.

In Roy-Ruiz, Roy was guaranteed $10 million, with Ruiz only to get paid from the PPV upside. Everyone called Ruiz a moron for agreeing to such a deal, even though he wound up clearing a career-high payday (around $3.5 million, though not sure how much he was left with after having to divvy up with King, Stoney and his ex-wife) after PPV sales topped out at 602,000.

In Roy-Tito, Tito was guaranteed $15 million, with Roy only to get paid from the PPV upside. Though winning the fight, Roy still won't make even half of Trinidad's payday, with sales around 500,000.

So, Tito earned more for this fight than Roy did against Ruiz, even though Tito-Roy did less than Roy-Ruiz.

Roy earned less against Tito than he did against Ruiz, where was able to secure a guaranteed career-high payday AND get paid off of the PPV upside as well.

Not sure I can agree with you, unless we're talking past tense. It was a smart business move by Roy in that he has plenty to bargain with for his next (and perhaps last) big fight. But shrewd it was not, especially since King actually got to pimp his ass out this time around (as opposed to Roy not helping at all w/ the promotion for the Ruiz fight)

Great PPV buys to start the year, I think Jones may have made as much as Trinidad because of this.
