Jones-Trinidad: Old Warriors Do Big Business

    500,000+ buys for Jones-Trinidad!
There were some scribes who said legendary promoter Don King had lost his touch prior to last Saturday's PPV clash between aging warriors Roy Jones Jr. and Felix Trinidad at Madison Square Garden in New York City. In fact, King was ranked only #8 in a recent list of boxing's biggest powerbrokers, however, DKP confirmed on Thursday that Jones-Trinidad attracted more than 500,000 buys, making it one of the biggest boxing pay-per-view successes in recent years. Reached on the phone in Mexico City, where he was officially announcing Peter vs Maskaev for March 8th in Cancun, King told *********.com, "Roy Jones Jr. proved he is still one of the biggest pay-per-view stars in the sport, and I can't say enough about the show Tito and Roy put on for the fans. I urge everyone who didn't see the fight to watch the HBO replay on Saturday night. Roy Jones Jr. is back and look for him to be back in the ring soon. He's on a mission to prove to everyone how great he still is." Official attendance at the Garden for the fight was 12,162.

jones vs tito 500,000 ppv buys

Despite overwhelming prefight media criticism of their light heavyweight showdown last Saturday night at New York's Madison Square Garden, the fight drew a stunningly large audience. It generated 500,000 pay-per-view subscriptions and $25 million in domestic television revenue, HBO PPV's Mark Taffet told ESPN.com on Thursday.

It broke down to 300,000 cable subscriptions and 200,000 satellite buys, he said. Once all the buys are fully counted, the totals are expected to rise slightly

More than I expected, but I'm not surprised, they are both very popular names, as soon as they find out in my neighborhood Roy Jones is fighting, everyone watches it.

****ing Great start to the year....

Last year only Delahoya vs Mayweather and Mayweather vs Hatton did better...

Whats also great is the card wasnt bad and Jones vs Trinidad was acctually pretty good.
