Why didn't Calzaghe ever fight Roy Jones Jr.?

Shame it never happened, Prime v Prime, Joe may not have won, but I think he's the only one that would have given him a work out. According to Woodhall, Joe is the only one who is anywhere near Roy's speed, and we know Joe's chin is fine, so Roy by a close UD.

Prime for prime, it would be so close. Nobody got to Roys chin until he stopped juicing and slowed down to his real speed, but Joe was fast enough to get to Roys chin even when he was juiced up, so either Joe by KO or Roy by a VERY close SD.

Because it doesnt exist you idiot. At least not in the way you are trying to represent it. I have seen the interview and what was actually said was along the lines of "he is the best fighter in the world, he might beat me but the oppurtunity would have been nice"

I also remember Joe offering to go to the states to fight Roy? Dont say anything about not being a draw because compared to some of the guys Roy was fighting at the time, being a name didnt make a difference, you still got your shot at Roy. In fact, I'd even go as far as to say that Roy avoided big name fighters to a certain extent, probably because in big fights people care more about whether or not you happen to be juiced up.

Do you back off on this ridiculous idea that Calzaghe was dying for a fight with Jones and just couldn't get it? Do you feel like an *******? I think the thread starter is secretly in love with calzaghe its pretty much all he ever talks about, sorta the same thing you do when you fancied a girl when you were young by getting her attention by nudging her and calling her names, I'm sure you can get his number if you really want it.

How about I continue to tell the truth? The interview he is quoting does not exist. That is a fact. I have read the interview in which he claims this was said, and funnily enough, it wasnt. As for the article to which you refer in Ring magazine, it is an extract from his book, also called No Ordinary Joe by some sort of odd coincidence, that I own and have read a number of times. He doesnt say he has avoided fights that were damaging to his health, he said he would never subject himself to a war just to say that he has been in a war. What this means is that if a fight descended into a war, so be it, but he would never make it one just to proudly proclaim he was in a war with whatever fighter. Dont try and tell me the oppisite of what I have already read and already know, it makes you look foolish and immature.

It only sounds hateful because the Calzaghe nut huggers are OUT OF CONTROL. You can't say anything even remotely negative about Calzaghe's resume without having half the United Kingdom crying about all the excuses Cal-Z has for missing fights against:

jones was invited to fight joe once in wales. jones himself said when he was top of the world he would be crazy to go to joe's back yard and fight him.

i do agree that it would be too risky for jones to go to wales and fight joe when he was the best. yet i think it wudda been a great fight

I will admit that sometimes I may get a little excessive in defending Joe, but with half the stuff that gets posted on here being americans ****ting on his legacy, somebody has to do it so a true boxing legend doesnt pass by unnoticed until many years down the line.
