The top 4 opponents from which Trinidad should choose

I think most of us agree that Trinidad has what it takes to win one more fight and go out on a high note. Considering the circumstances(weight, star power, etc), I think he should fight a guy who is well known by the boxing public but who is beatable by Trinidad. I have been thinking of these 4:

    1. Oscar De La Hoya - It would be a long awaited rematch that a lot of fans have wanted, plus it would settle the score after the close, controversial decision in 1999.

    2. Jeff Lacy - This is a solid opponent, not well known by casual fans but had enough highlight reel Ko's to impress those who don't know him. HBO could do a countdown and sell Lacy as the biggest threat in Trinidad's career. It would be a great matchup and a solid win if Trinidad beats him.

    3. Ricardo Mayorga - He already stopped him convincingly, but Mayorga had a recent war with Vargas which may have made him more popular among casual fans. The fight would sell and say what you will, it could be a great slugfest at 168.

    4. Fernando Vargas - The last fight he should take out of the bunch since he has lost 3 fights in a row. Still, the fight would sell a lot and at 168 it could provide enough fireworks to become one of the best fights of the year if Vargas does not get blown out in 3 or 4 rounds.

Of those mentioned, the likeliest would be Lacy. De La Hoya wont happen, they wont be able to fight at an acceptable weight. Mayorga has already been beaten once, what would deserve a rematch? The outcome would be the same. And Vargas, even if he came out of retirement, wouldnt make weight and is SHOT.

Lacy would be the best fight and most likely to be done. Lacy needs a big name to come back from the Calzaghe loss and dissapointment after that. He's young and dangerous and Tito would need to fight some of the best talent available without too much danger. I think Lacy fits that bill.

Jeff Lacy is over, Trinidad wins by points shutout, but thats hardly an achievement, man will never have the heart to fight after being humiliated by Calzaghe.

That said, Trinidad is also over, retire now while you still have some brain function.

I wouldn't call a fight with Tito a tuneup by any means. That fight would be a toss up in my opinion. I agree if he did fight Trinidad, win then rematch Floyd...................$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$

I think only the DLH will be beneficial for him. Lacy is pretty much done since Calzaghe beat him up, he already beat Mayorga decisively and Vargas is shot. I'd love to see a DLH rematch even though I doubt it will happen.

You gotta be kidding me LOL

Who in their right mind is going to pay to see another Trinidad fight??? His last 2 fights showed he doesn't have it anymore. You can call it a contrast of styles and that he can't fight those type of fighters (ala Winky & Roy).

But to say he should fight Oscar, Vargas, or Mayorga??? Why???

At Trinidad's age he can't afford to fight for the sake of fighting because he's dame sure not in line for any titles.

He should just bow out now. He's still a Hall of Famer and one of the grear fighters of our generation. Keep it Movin...
