Didn't he just lose to Paul Williams. At least it looked good on his record for a while when The punisher was dubbed as the next most feared guy until he got schooled by a mid-level slick boxer who isn't anywhere near the skill level of a Floyd Mayweather.

All the same. Linear champions are just facts of boxing. When somebody discredits Floyd's win against Baldomir, I just simply point out that Baldomir was the recognized, linear, Ring Magazine and WBC world champion when he stepped into the ring against Floyd. No reason to defend Baldomir's skills, because it's up for debate and the notion is that he is a garbage fighter as well.

So Spinks was the champ..that's a fact. Margarito losing to garbage fighters is another fact. Let me rephrase garbage so it's all in proper context. When you wanna make a case that Floyd has a reason to be affraid of Margarito and facts get in the way, him losing to lesser skilled fighters time and time again.........it proves what I said.

Maybe I should have chosen different words but Margairto is a hype machine created by Bob Arum.

The Williams loss is legitimate, even though PW doesn't resemble Floyd in any way. The Rodney Jones loss is totally irrelevant to anything going on in the welterweight division today, yet you sold it like it actually means something.

This thread orignally started because of a annoying Margarito supporter named Viva. When you make ridiculous claims regarding your favorite fighter this is what happens. Besides the 8mill offer (same amount that Floyd made fighting Baldomir for the real welterweight title), what does Margarito offer besides ridiculous claims (by him and his promoter) that somebody who is above him record/resume/greatness/skill wise, is scared of him or ducking him.

Is Margarito a great fighter? Does he do anything for Floyd's legacy or is a Margarito victory just somthing that shuts a few people up temporary until they make up a new Most feared fighter?

I believe Cotto has a greater credibility in that same regard right now then did Margarito back then. This is one challange Floyd can't back down from if Cotto remains unbeaten by the end of the year. If Cotto beats the Cintron/Margarito winner, then he has beaten everybody and done everything asked of him. That's no hype.

Margarito was all hype, Paul Williams proved that. I can't make it any simpler then that.
