But his trainer dad Enzo reckons any fight against Jones, who faces Felix Trinidad at New York’s Madison Square Garden tonight in a light-heavy bout, is a non-starter.

One-time great Trinidad, 35, has lost two of his last four bouts. Jones, 39, has been battered in three of his last five.

Calzaghe senior said: “The fight between Jones and Trinidad might have happened years ago when both were in their prime.

“They have both been magnificent servants of the sport, Jones a four division champ and ‘Tito’ a three division champ.

“While now they are finally matched up, the big question is whether they are washed up.

“As for Jones fighting Joe, I can’t see that happening. With Joe at the top, all these people are hovering around him like moths around a flame.

“Unless Joe takes a very, very big step backwards, him and Jones is a non-starter.”

Calzaghe added: “Jones is my favourite to take care of Trinidad who does not belong in the light-heavyweights after moving up from the welters.”

Article is from The Sun newspaper!
This is why Calzaghe will never be consdered p4p nothjing let alone a great. He wants a paper record with Bernard on it. He's getting it but in my book this interview will always come to mind when talking about Calzaghe. Complete hypocrit, he has lost a fan. I mean, fighting 43 year old Bernard Hopkins isn't a non-starter? A 39 year old is. Nice.

Spot on, its blatant hypocrisy but the Calzaghe 'stans' refuse to accept it

They're both WAY past they're sell by, its just funny how Calzaghe has packed his bags and travel now, when they're old and defeated and not 6-7 years ago

Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly is a 'non-starter' anyway?

This was written by ENZO Calzaghe, Joe's father.
