Clottey is a much better fight than Gomez, but why fight Clottey if he will fight Margarito, who beat Clottey...I would also like to see how Cotto punishes someone like Fonzo..

It should be the other way around, Clottey should be pondering over an offer and Gomez should be the frontrunner if that bout falls apart.

Why shouldn't Cotto fight Gomez, even as a tune-up? Gomez will make this fight harder for Cotto than a lot of people expect, he's got a granite chin and a heart to match. Imagine what Cotto haters would say when this 16-3-1 Gomez stands toe to toe with Cotto and manages to steal more rounds than expected/stay in this fight longer than he should/maybe go the distance. These are all very likely possibilities. Other than that, if Clottey's available this fight doesn't make sense at all

I'd rather see the Clottey fight. I think that's an important fight for Cotto. If he can take out a guy as strong as Clottey then Margarito wont be as much of a problem as I think he will be.

fighting hatton is like having a tune up fight

funny when people say this, but before the fight hatton was gonna beat the **** out of mayweather, hattons pressure was going to be too much and floyd wasnt gong to know what to do. Floyd had never faced a pressure fighter or body puncher like hatton, hatton hits too hard, floyd is gonna run. and now after the fight hatton was a tune up. or hatton is a jr ww anyways.

its hilarious how everyone ****s up a thread by bringing in floyd into a Cotto thread that has nothing to do with floyd or vice versa...but back to what the thread is about, i really hope gomez holds out and clottey gets the fight. That fight would be good to see and i think it would be a close action packed fight, and why are cotto margarito scheduled to fight 2 months after a fight, thats unheard of now days.

Gomez Doesnt Deserve.

I don't understand why they just won't set up the damn Cotto-Margarito clash now. They were supposed to fight last year. Cotto is on a role right now and there's absolutely no reason to be taking these meaningless tune up fights with fighters like Gomez, who's only claim to fame is beating a undersized over the hill Arturo Gatti. And I don't know how much Gomez's people are demanding for this fight but they should be happy with whatever they get since there's about 20 fighters in front of him that are more deserving of a shot than Gomez. I wouldn't even put Gomez in the top 20.
