After the Julian Jackson fight Gerald had frequent head aches, bleeding and dizziness which means he probably had brain damage even before the Benn fight.

In the Benn fight, which almost ended in round one, McClellan took serious punishment from Benn without looking very affected. After a few rounds he started blinking repeteadly and had his mouthpiece out of his mouth to get some air but he was still winning the fight at that point.

In round 10 McClellan collapsed after a series of punches from Benn, took a knee and waited until the referee counted to ten. After the fight was stopped he walked into his corner, collapsed and went into coma.

Gerald was sent into the hospital and a blood clot was removed from his brain. He finally woke up after spending weeks in coma, extensively brain damaged, deaf and blind.

Today he has regained his ability to walk but he is still blind and deaf and he can't remember many things from the past.

who else other than manfredo was joe gonna fight to get known in america? at the end of the day he got to fight kessler for 2 titles and then hopkins. atleast he is aiming for bigger names although he and hopkins are past it.

well joe is still fast and skilled, but i aint seen that desire to punch to ko someone. maybe his hands are too fragile to try it i don't know.

he lacks resume yet many boxers do too.

every boxer benn has faced has said he has a mofo of a punch. he just came out of prison himself and needed to cash. he was hungry not to lose to mcclean since he was taunted by him.

I'm surprised how many people say Calzaghe/Kessler. I mean, it was a good fight but really not close to being one of the best supermiddle fights of all time. There are many great exciting fights with two way action and also some great fights with serious skills. Many of the Toney fights at that weight were great as he was actually able to fight for most of the rounds at this weight.

Bika/Codrington was an all action brawl and hands down beats nearly any other fight for pure drama and action.

Benn/McClellan obviously was very exciting whilst also being very tragic. Just adding onto what TheManchine was saying about that fight...you could tell there was something wrong with McClellan straight away during the first round. After he put Benn through the ropes in only a minute or so he already had his mouthpiece all the way out. It was sad because he had just had a falling out with his long time trainer Steward and it's quite possible that with Steward in the corner he could've noticed something wrong with him. I mean obviously there is something going on with a fighter when after only half a round he can't even keep his mouthpiece in and after only about four rounds or so starts acting weird and blinking and ****. Probably the biggest sign though is that throughout the entire fight he didn't sweat a single drop. Check it out, it really is very strange and is a huge indicator that the fighter has something wrong and is severely dehydrated. After one or two rounds every fighter is usually very sweaty. While Benn was pouring sweat McClellan doesn't even break the slightest sweat throughout the whole fight. ****ing corner should have noticed this and taken steps to protect their fighter.

Watson/Eubank was absolutely brilliant for a very dramatic ending and again was terribly tragic. It's sad again that Watson was probably the best fighter out of that whole bunch in terms of pure skill. Eubank was the best over all obviously but Watson really could've been great...although the guy who was really the best out of that group but is never talked about because no one wanted to fight him was Herol Graham. That guy could fight! He was brilliant!
