It seems all Hopkins biggest wins have been over smaller men, welterweights like Trinidad and De La Hoya.

When he's faced world-class opponents his own size - such as Roy Jones Jr and Jermain Taylor - he's lost!

Obviously Tarver is the first name I'd think of. Anytime you use the word "world class" it is always subjective. Were William Joppy and Keith Holmes world class? I've heard this same criteria used on Marvin Hagler too.

But Tarver is not really an elite fighter.

Trinidad was reasonably impressive at MW though, wasn't he?

Say what you say about him but Tarver is world class and a very good light heavyweight. There is not a name he hasn't beaten in the recent LHW history.

There's a difference between "elite" and paper champion.

Tarver has a title but he's not really an elite fighter.
