Billy's tactics are all wrong! Frank Warrens Words

BILLY GRAHAM said that what I know about tactics can be written on the back of a stamp.

He forgets I am a manager of fighters as well as a promoter.

I won’t bother to list the fighters I’ve managed and promoted to British, Commonwealth, European and world titles, as this column isn’t long enough.

What I do know is Matt Macklin has just dumped Graham as his trainer.

But that’s no surprise as Macklin was lucky to escape serious injury by not being retired following a brutal fight against light-middleweight Jamie Moore.

It was a division Macklin should never have been allowed to fight in as, by then, he was a natural middleweight but was badly advised by Graham to take the fight.

Macklin came into the sport with great potential. Let’s hope he can get his career back on track.

And I couldn’t have done worse than Graham during Ricky Hatton’s ill-fated attempt to dethrone Floyd Mayweather, where Plan A looked decidedly wrong and Plan B non-existent.

But then when part of your regime involves propping up the bar with your fighter, you wonder.

Perhaps it was part of an unknown master-plan by a tactical genius but more likely, the lifestyle made the difference and the better fighter won.

Well Graham's tactics have thus far produced the same results against Mayweather as Buddy McGirt, Yoel Judah and Freddie Roach. Thanks for the input Frank.

i agree whith this as good as Floyd is what did Ricky do differently to what he normally does IMO he did nothing different at all ,Graham watched all those tapes but what happened in the end Ricky endded up nearly losing every round & got caught come in a straight line ,no jab what so ever what Graham & Ricky fail to realise is it was'nt the preassure that Dela Hoya put on Floyd that it was the jab that gave him so much trouble

no plan B what so ever plan A was no different than usual either , if Ricky wants a good trainer he should go to Buddy McGirt he is a top trainer IMO

It's ****** to try and blame graham for Hatton losing that fight, it wouldnt matter who he had in his corner that night PBF still wouldve won.
Graham has been a great trainer for Hatton, Warrens only saying this because hes bitter Hatton dropped him and has made alot of money Warrens missed out on so he uses his newspaper coloumn to dig Hatton out every week.
Warrens just making himself look petty and childish.

I think he still wouldve lost by KO I think PBF was out to KO Hatton to prove a point and wouldve done regardless of Hattons tactics.
