You can say Roy Jones was the draw, the one who one the first fight and the champion in the fight.

You could also say that Hopkins was the one going up in weight to face Jones and he would've been the best competition RJJ would've faced in years, making it a MUCH bigger fight than RJJ against someone like Kelly or Telesco.

I say the fans didn't get to see a great fight with two great fighters because of their egos.

RJJ dominated and was unbeaten for the first 15 years of his career. he took over 3 divisions not including the heavyweight title that he won. He has won a grand total of 13 titles in 4 different divisions and I don't know this for sure but I would guess this is a record. He is a top 10 p4p all-time without a doubt. he is #1 skill wise all-time thats for sure.
      List of RJJ's titles
      1. WBC SMW
      2. IBF MW

                So...?

You could also say that Jones would have been the best competition Hopkins EVER faced.

Let's be realistic. Hopkins did not want 50-50 to fight Oscar or Tito.

Tito was the first world class opponent he ever had, I'm sure he would've fought Jones for 60/40 before that Trinidad fight and Oscar DLH is his business partner.

Hopkins had already faced Jones before, he knew what he was in for and I doubt he was too scared based on that match. B-Hop won most of the last rounds and he was coming on while Jones was getting tired.

Both Hopkins and Jones weren't afraid to fight lesser fighters for lesser money. It was all about their egos getting in the way of a great fight.
Jones thought he was better than Hopkins, Hopkins thought he was equal to Jones. That happens.

Jones didn't "think" he was better than Hopkins, he "knew" he was better than Hopkins.

Jones would have been the second, what's your point?

He was willing to let go of 50-50 with Tito and Oscar but not for fighting Jones. That's a fact.

Another fact is that Jones probably never had to concede 60-40 (EDIT, my bad) to anyone, except possibly for the Toney fight.

So Hopkins is not willing to accept a split he had already accepted, and will accept again.

Jones on the other hand was willing to offer a split he never offered, before or since. You do the math on who's pricing himself out.

As for Jones getting tired, and Hopkins winning the majority of the later rounds... LOL and dont forget Jones was fighting most of the fight with his left hand only.
