Roy Jones JR is the most overated Fighter ever

Roy Jones JR is the most overated Fighter ever ,im not saying he was'nt a great fighter cause he was & i love watching Roy Jones JR he is briiliant to watch 1 of my favourites ,however ive had enough of the people that massively overate him & there seeem's to be a lot of people on NSB that overate him

he won the Heavyweight Title yes but John Ruiz is possibly the wosrt heavyweight Champion ever , Toney beat him aswell let's not forget

Roy Dominated James Toney who is an Elite fighter ,this to date is his best win & it seem's though his legacy is based on his dominence of this fighter ,Toney proceeded to lose his next fight agaisnt a lesser oponent in Montell Griffin however

Hopkins was'nt any where near his prime when these 2 clashed u can say that Niether was Roy But Roy was a better fighter at this stage of his career than Hopkins ,different fighter's peak at different times though just look at Calzaghe his best form has come with Experience etc

To Many people read into the triple hooks Roy landed against nobody's like Bryan Brannon & the stunning KO''s ,and the way he dominated C Class fighters like Kelly ,Frazier ,Lucas,Telasco,Hall ,

all every well & good but he would'nt have played basketball before a fight had he been fighting someone of any substance & we all know that ,to many people base Roy's greatness on what he would have done to fighter's had they fought & that is plain wrong IMO

Just to repeat Roy was a great fighter i do not disagree but he was'nt as great as people make him out to be or maybe he was but one thing's for sure he did'nt prove it against the best fighter's Post Toney ,Great oponent's make u truly great IMO

BTW i dont know why people bring up Mike McCallum when they mention Roy resume ,McCallum was an old man by then do u think Roy would have done that to the McCallum that fought Mike Watson not a chance

He is not nearly as overated as Monzon. Yeah I understand what u mean and agree btw. There was a weight drain cycle as we all know. Toney weight drain against RJJ. RJJ weight drained against Tarver. Tarver weight drained against B-Hop. LOL I hope B-Hop ain't next

Good post, 100% agree. People make him out to be a god based on that James Toney fight. Well, I think Peter Manfredo coud of beaten Toney on that night he was so bad. As you rightfully said Toney also went on to lose his next few fights after he fought Roy too.

Ahm, he lost a close decision against unbeaten Montell Griffin which he underestimated and every second guy say he won. After that he won...

Totally agree. I look at Roy's career as being full of hollow victories. He has nothing on Marvin Hagler, Ray Leonard, Ray Robinson, Roberto Duran etc etc because he just didn't fight the calibre of fighters to be mentioned in the same breath as them. He had all the skill in the world but unfortunately didn't show us it against decent fighters. I do think there's an element of truth to the fact that there simply weren't the great fighters around at the time for him to fight. For example, Leonard needed Duran and Hagler to make him the fighter he was. Even if Jones had fought Michalczewski or Calzaghe and wooped them, would we really look at his career any differently? Michalczewski isn't really going down in anyone's HoF books (even though he was the linear light heavyweight champion for a number of years - it's true, check the record books people!) and Calzaghe wasn't the fighter he became when Roy was in his prime.

You say you think Roy is a great fighter who you love to watch then slag him off over seven paragraphs, sort it out divad your beginning to bore me. You say James Toney is an elite fighter but i think thats an exagerration he is a great fighter but i wouldnt label him as elite and i'm a big Toney fan. Imo hopkins was probably a better fighter when he fought jones than he is today, do you think he's going to fight Calzaghe with the same intensity and work rate at age 43 than he did v Jones at age 29? Roy Jones Jr is not overrated, he is what he is, an exceptional, phenomenal talent who who hung around for too long, what great fighter didnt?

Griffin must have been a very good fighter. He gave Roy trouble and James Toney trouble. And then Roy starched him in 1 round. That to me what one of Roy's most impressive moments. I think Roy is only overated by people that say he is the greatest of all time. Thats going too far, but he was one of the greatest I think.

                    Roy wasted his talent.
And it's too late to play catch up now he is shot.
