Cut Miguel Cotto Some Slack on Gomez

By Jake Donovan - For years we've demanded more big fights on a consistent basis. Boxing finally delivers, only for fans to demand more. Tune-ups and showcase bouts need not apply. [details]

Exactly. Jake nailed it here, this isn't that bad of a fight. I would LOVE to see Cotto in with the other top guys, Gomez isn't that bad and its part of the business in boxing. All the top welterweights are fighting each other and Gomez would be difficult for some of them. This fight will be a action fight because Alphonso can't fight any other way and Cotto will be happy to oblige him. Cooto wins, keeps sharp and Gomez has a chance (be it a very small one) to make it interesting.

Gomez is not a top guy. And Urkhal wasn't too irrespective of what the authour says. If I claim that Brusseles was a top guy when FMM beat him, would you believe me?

Some of you forget that Gomez has only lost to a middleweight who he had previously beat (Manfredo) and Ishe Smith, hes not a bad fighter..... IMO he is a way more credible than the old Shramba Mitchel that FMJ fought.

If your serious I will take that bet. To be honest I don't really mind seeing Cotto face Gomez. Even though Gomez has a small chance of winning IMO, you know he will come to fight and give a good effort. I want to see Cotto try to unify the division and face Money May one day, but for me facing Gomez doesn't bother me.
