From the OC Register:
“If you talk about a fight that I want to see happen, it’s the winner of Cotto-Margarito against Mayweather,” Arum said. “Do I think realistically it will happen? No, because I’ve been telling you guys all along Mayweather will never fight anybody where there is a chance that he will lose. He’s not a physical coward, because I don’t think fighters are physical cowards. I think he is a psychological coward. He can’t deal with defeat.
“Now, I don’t say this from the outside. I promoted him for so many years. I know what he thinks. So obviously he would rather fight a (Oscar) De La Hoya again, maybe a dozen times because he can’t lose to De La Hoya and he makes some good money. And he would fight Ricky Hatton 17 times, but he’s not gonna fight a guy where he risks losing.”
Arum said he believes Mayweather is one of the most gifted boxers in the world, but he doesn’t believe he deserves to be at the top of any pound-for-pound lists.
“I never said that he (Mayweather) doesn’t have great skills,” Arum said. “He has great skills. But he has this psychological problem of not wanting to risk losing. He’ll never get over that.”
Arum had tons to say about Pacquiao-Hatton, Pavlik-Abraham and Latin Fury 2. Check it out here:
