No way in hell he was in his prime. His best days were at lightweight, where he was argueably the greatest of all time of that division.

When he fought hearns, he was no where near washed up though, Duran's prime was long, but his effective career post-prime was even longer

He was past his best but still a force to be reckoned with, take nothing away from Hearns. Hearns was the first and only person to stop him (except Joppy but he was waaaay past his prime and old) and he did it it brutal fashion.

Yeah, he was definitely past it but nonetheless that doesn't take away from what Hearns did as no one else was able to do that before or after even when he was damn 50 years old! Quite seriously though, I don't think ANYONE could have taken that punch whether it was a heavyweight or super-chinned Hagler! It could not have been better, it was simply the ultimate punch. Right on the sweet spot at the corner of the chin coming from a slight angle...brutal stuff.

Whats the point of this thread exactly again? I don't think Duran could ever have beaten Tommy regardless of prime or non prime (the Duran of Montreal would of gone the distance but been out-boxed). The size difference was staggering. Tommy's prime was at 154 where he was still absolutely huge and had a massive reach advantage over everyone he fought (he won the light heavyweight title for gods sake!) while Duran's was at 135 where he was the same size as everyone else.

            Terrible mismatch.

you know when you have certain fights you just cant watch....

this is one of those, along with lewis rahman 1.

to answer the question, yes he was past his prime but like its been said before hearns physical advantages would cause any version of duran problems all day long

That had to be the best right hand ever thrown.

I saw Barkley (who punched hard as hell) knock Duran's head back and send him spinning but Roberto just refused to go down.

Hagler and Leonard couldn't come close to knocking Duran out either.

The man has a chin of steel but Hearns' right hand is ridiculous.
