Why do people care so much about Taylor losing?

What happened to may the best man win. Pavlik absolutely earned the title shot. JT was a sportsman he knew he got beat and knew he would do better next time and try again. His fans were brutal though. After their first fight I remember people going berserk saying Smoger was racist for not giving JT a chance, even though he was clearly out of it. Or they turned on him and said he was a paper champ. I was actually more impressed with Jermaine than I had been his whole career in the Pavlik fight. His fights with Spinks and Ouma were terrible, I actually thought Spinks won not to mention that Winky beat JT.

I never lost any respect for Taylor after that fight. I honestly felt bad for him after, it was very emotional and I could see he was so traumatized. He was also nervous during the fight, but I think if Taylor can stay more focused and determined, he can win the rematch.

That was indeed JT's best performance. He did ok.

But there are a number of things that have been hard for people to swallow.

Edit: by this I mean it showed a limitation in both a hype machine and a lineage

I don't get the title. Are you saying why were people so angry when he lost?

I mean what difference does it make to a fan if the fighter loses legitimately and clearly. Why would the fan then either cry foul or bash the fighter?

Yeah I feel that a lot of Taylor 'fans' were just on the bandwagon, he had some good fights with big names in Wink and B-hop (twice) so his resume looked good, his undefeated streak was going nicely, he had a few belts and defneded his title against Hopkins. Personally I could never see him being an unstoppable force even though he was the champ and undefeated, something about the way he beat Hopkins the second time was just very unimpressive.

So of course once he lost the people who said they'd backed him all the way because he hadn't lost took the easy way out and said he was a paper champion because of dubious decisions against Wright and Hopkins the first time round. Tis always gonna happen.

I get what you mean then.

Taylor showed class and said that he lost fair and square, but some of his fans won't accept that. I hate it when fans make excuses.

Most of his fans have now jumped on the Pavlik bandwagon, glory hunters. Taylor has got the skills he just needs to sort his head and heart out.

I guess, I mean, a lot of people had seen him in close fights, I don't think a lot of people thought of him as unstoppable. He lost by KO, but the fight was pretty even score-wise up to the 7th round. It's not like he got shut out, and believe me Pavlik is better than most/all the fighters Taylor fought at the time although he is not as known as them.

I actually gained respect for Taylor after that fight. He fought his heart out and it didnt work out for him that night. He made no excuses and shows he is a warrior for taking the rematch right away and I think it will be an all action fight (still picking Pavlik by KO though.)
