It's amazing. I usually hate Guido fighters. A HUGE part of why Jones and Mayweather are among my favourite fighters is because of the beatdowns they inflicted on Pazienza and Gatti, respectively.

I can watch those fights any time, and I'm pissed that McGirt didn't send Arturo out for round 7. C'mon out for some more, "Warrior".

But for some reason, I like Paulie...and I'm a fan of his. I would go to watch Mali***gy scrap.

I feel you. Though you have to admit by the time Floyd ****ed Gatti he (Gatti) was a proper whore. Maybe Floyd had the biggest ****, maybe not, but it was still a whore, no?

        Amen to that.

Paulie has a large following of fans from N.Y.C. In particular, Brooklyn.

He's someone for them to cheer for because there aren't many championship caliber fighters from N.Y. right now. And alot of times boxing just works like that. He has many many Italian fans.

Gatti on the other hand made his way up through blood, sweat and guts. He's participated in more exciting fights than anyone I can think of. I have an extensive fight collection on DVD with over 2000 fights and Iv'e probably seen thousands others in my life. I can tell you right now 6 or 7 of Gatti's fights rank right at the top as far as heart goes. The guy was just an amazing specimen when it came to rising from the ashes and leaving every ounce in the ring. Even one sided beat downs like the De La Hoya fight were something to be marveled. He stood in for 6 rounds with a guy that was absolutely punishing him and kept coming.

Gatti vs Patterson I/II , Ruelas, Robinson I/II, Rodriguez, Ward I/II/III, Branco... Even the fights against Damgaard and Baldomir had moments of excitement.

And on top of all that you can never copmare the two because if Malignaggi ever gets seriously hurt like Gatti was prone to so many times in his career, he doesn't have the 1 punch KO power to come back in a fight.

That was the compelling part about Gatti. He could take immense punishment for rounds at a time , but everyone knew with his heart and will something amazing could happen at any moment.

The comparisons to Rocky are as close as any one fighter could be.

An average boxer at best with a championship heart. Probably, the best all time.

I heard Larry Merchant say this once.

Gatti's heart and determination are so rare as the abilities of a world class boxer.

Basically, he was the Floyd Mayweather of boxers with heart. The best.

And he's no greasy guido. He's one of the most humble men you'd ever want to meet outside of the ring.

There won't be another Gatti for a very very very long time. He just did amazing things in the ring with limited abilities.

I like Michael Katsidis, but he's got a long way to go to get to that level.

I think it's obvious that Malignaggi has heart.

But comparing him to Gatti is strange. Because Gatti would willingly walk forward and exchange with little or no defense. Pauly exchanges infrequently with little or no defense..........but it's his boxing routine and lack of defense combination that makes him differ from Gatti.

Neither guy really has the World Class set of reflexes, they rely on attrition and both of them have the neutralizer.

          Malignaggi----speed.

          Gatti---------power.

          But much different fighters.

Gatti was an all action, all heart fighter. Paulie is a much better boxer then Gatti, but he isnt exciting at all. Gatti was loved because he fought the wars, and gave it his all, win or lose. He was all action. Paulie is all "Jab, run, jab, hold....still holding....still holding...."

Definitely not as much of a knocker as Gatti, but he's bringing some sort of excitement to some of Gatti's old fans. Problem is Paulie needs to make these next few years really good years for him because Gatti at least had a punchers chance towards the end of his career. What do ya'll think?
Yeah its interesting you say that hes one of Gattis best friends.

He's far from being one of Arturo's " best " friends.

Their more like acquaintances. He showed up to a few of Arturo's fights and vice versa. It's a mutual admiration amongst two boxers.

Paulie has a lot of respect for the heart Gatti showed in the ring and his legendary status.

You didn't see Arturo at Paulie's fight. I think he's content being away from boxing. Or he just can't bare to be that close to a ring without getting in there.

He's just one of those type of guys.

I AGREE WITH THIS ASSESMENT. I LIKE PAULIE, BUT AN ARTURO GATTI HE IS NOT. ONE THING I DO NOT LIKE ABOUT PAULIE IS HE'S GOT THAT GAY METROSEXUAL BARBIE DOLL THING GOING. HE ALSO LOOKS LIKE JOHN GOTTI'S SPOILED GRAND KIDS
