Malignaggi Overcomes a Tough Ngoudjo To Win

Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi (24-1, 5KOs) retained his IBF junior welterweight title with a tough unanimous decision over mandatory challenger Herman “Black Panther” Ngoudjo (16-2, 9KOs). The scores were 115-113, 116-113 and 117-111.

The fight was more difficult for Malignaggi than many insiders expected. Ngoudjo was a 6-1 underdog and how can you have him as anything other than an underdog when considering his two most recent performances. He was very lucky in being awarded the decision in the IBF eliminator against Randall Bailey. He won a split-decision, but most of the ringside observers saw Bailey as the clear winner. Prior to Bailey, Ngoudjo was unable to close the show on a very rusty Jose Luis Castillo. [details]

I don't necessarily think it was robbery, but a close fight that could have gone either way. I personally had it a draw.

This is what i expected Ndou to do, i think i thought too highly of him. Ngoudjo has really long arms and he really knows how to use them, if this had not been in Paulies backyard it would have gone to Ngoudjo.

Yeah I felt that the one judge that had it 117-111 had to be smoking something. Once Lennon said UD I knew Paulie was going to have it in his favor.

are all of you idiots kidding me.ngoudjo was lucky to have won 4 rounds besides leading with his head alas evander holyfield.granted it wasnt malignaggi's best performance but other than the 7th round he wasnt getting hit cleanly with anything.the announcers had ngoudjo so far down their throats its a wonder we could understand them.you need to go back and watch it again with the volume off and then tell me ngoudjo won,get serious...

And what did Malinaggi hit him with that made you think he won the fight so convincingly?

I also found it funny how anyone could possibly compare Paulie to Pep, Paulie fights with a slick style but he isn't slick enough to not get hit.

Paulie's fought two good fighters, well actually one is great in Cotto and Cotto was dead at 140 and he got beat both times convincingly, eating too much leather. He's no slickster. Anybody can be a lsickster against the tomato cans that he;s fought.
