    Does anyone know...

the biggest weight differential between starting weight class and the highest weight class a fighter has won a title in (excluding heavyweight, since there isn't a proper weight for heavyweights anyway)?

I can think of James Toney off the top of my head, started at 160 and won a title at 200 from Vasily Jirov.

Guillermo Jones started at 147, and was a serious contender in the cruiserweight division, but never got over the hump.

Can anyone top James Toney's 40 point weight differential?

Let me clarify... legitimate WORLD title. IBF, WBA, WBC, WBO (even this is a little iffy) or The Ring.

I didn't specify though, so thanks, that is at least interesting to know!

Must be Toney, but it's the gaps in weight get higher as you go up in weight classes so I can't think of anyone else

I think you need to include heavyweight in some way, shape or form, because Roy Jones deserves credit for being a middleweight champ who captured a belt at heavyweight.

            Ditto Bob Fitzsimmons.

Roy weighed 201 when he beat Ruiz. He should be added to the thread because well, he beat a bigger guy than Toney did.

Won WBC middleweight title from Iran Barkely in 1988. 42 pound difference.

I dont consider Toney's win at 200+ to be legit because he was on roids.
