His lack of athletic fluidity is even a help here; he needs to stay technical. He's a taught fighter.

That's what I meant when I referred to his finishing. He threw his 1-2 to split the guard for the left uppercut, then the next combination ended with a left that split the guard for a right uppercut. Speed and athleticism can be overcome when you break someone down technically like that.

How anyone could have had Taylor leading on the score cards at the end of the first fight is not short of an outrage!!
I agree he will be confident, but if Taylor gets back to the basics he has a chance. If Taylor fights with his left high he'll make Pavlik work for it, even though he (Taylor) won't land as many left hooks downstairs

Steward could have been great at analyzing what went wrong in the first fight and to build a new gameplan. Now with a new guy, things might not go so well. I dunno, I think Pavlik has too much momentum at this point to lose or let Taylor beat him in any way possible.
I think the swicth away from Manny will alow Jermain to think less- which he needs. His stint with Manny showed nothing but the fact that he can't adapt. With Ozell Nelson, he can just do what he did best- go off instincts and athleticism and hope that works. He has a chance, but I'm not betting on it.

And Kayjay- I think you're downplaying the 2nd round knockdown. He was definitely wobbled by it.

People continuously say Pavlik will be stronger at 166, but what most tend to forget is...so will Jermain. I think Taylor will be much more weary of getting hit with Kelly's right hand this time around, cause after that whooping in the 7th he knows that either he needs to stay outside, or keep his goddamn left hand up.

I think Jermain takes a pretty clear decision.

              yeah Pavlik's a monster.

              Steward actually made Jermain better.

For some reason the lads here are blinded by Jermain's use of the jab early in his career. He was fighting washed up guys and smaller fighters which was why his jab was used in high amounts.

But as soon as he fought the top guys they figured him out and ruined his confidence. He's a natural ****er with good athleticism but he's not a technical fighter by any means. Pavlik is a taught fighter who does alot of things right. He just doesn't look flashy doing it because he is a little awkward.

                Pavlik is vastly overrated.

I was shocked at Both fighters lack of body punching, especially considering that when they DID throw to the body, it was effective, AND considering they have both been effective to the body in previous fights.

And Pavlik showed he has an incredible chin, it took nearly a dozen of Taylors hardest shots to land FLUSH in order for pavlik to go down.

AND, Pavlik showed great finishing ability, and a very good defense. Taylor did not hit Pavlik flush ONCE after the 2nd round. A couple big shots off the top of Pavliks head and one big partially blocked body shot, and nothing clean after that.

I agree, but Taylor does still have an excellent jab. And it could same him in the rematch if he ever gets buzzed by a shot.

Instead of retreating to the ropes, he has to double and triple jab to keep Pavlik has off balance.

My biggest knock on Pavlik is he is careless with his balance a lot. even in his biggest fight against Taylor, the jab sent up off balance a lot.
