FYI...
I used Rogan as a perfect example of how brutal I think Merchant is, comparing an apple to an apple (only one apple is bland while the other is just sour and probably spoiled). I'd rather watch the fights without volume when Merchant starts blabbering on.Comment

If you dont like it MUTE your Tv. next time you watch boxing!.. or jus stay on Rogans nuts and watch MMA...Wow, looks like the locals in here like Old Larry Merchant and his senial self... I guess the Twilight Zone is also a big hit on here... Merchant definitely wouldn't make a good coach, and he has zero boxing experience, sure he's articulate, but he should stick to writing about boxing and get off HBO TV and PPV becuase he's not very savy when it comes to the LIVE action in the ring... They guy has annoyed me for years and just like the Sport of Boxing benifits when new young exciting fighters enter the ring, it would also benifit if new young commentators put on the headset...Comment

Wow. You actually said in your opening post that you think Joe Rogan is knowledgeable in his sport and Larry Merchant isn't. Do you actually listen to the two guys talk? Larry Merchant rambles from time to time but he also offers good background information and opinions- Joe Rogan doesn't say **** I can't see with my own eyes. "He needs to get outta that choke hold real quick or he's out.." etc. You obviously just like Joe Rogan and hate Larry Merchant. Merchant, though sometimes annoying, knows more about boxing that Rogan knows about his own wife's ****.Comment

LMAO on Rogan's nuts...
Looks like I found the Larry Merchant nuthuggers fan club in here...
Honestly though... I'd rather hear what Harold Lederman thinks during a fight over Merchant, but unfortunately the guys is like bloody polkaroo, he steps in for a second, delivers the goods, and then disappears... Not that I always agree with Lederman, but at least he has a clue...Comment

It's called respecting a guy who has been around the sport longer than you've been jerking your ****. I don't always think Merchant is the best...but he knows what he's talking about. He's too opinionated, often rude in post fight interviews- but he knows far more than the idiot douche bag Joe Rogan.LMAO on Rogan's nuts...

I can't stand Larry Merchant but he's not the problem. Let's face it, a sport is not going to lose or gain popularity because of it's announcers. You might not like the announcers but if you are interested in the game or event, you will still watch it.
I go through it all the time in the NFL, there are dudes that are terrible in how they call the games but I'm not going to stop watching because of them.
The reason the MMA and the UFC in particular has grown so much and is so popular, is because of the marketing that has been done for it. Dana White has done an incedible job of marketing the UFC and making the fights that the people want actually happen.......THAT'S THE KEY.
Think about how many "should have been fights" we talk about on this forum because certian fights never happened? It's sad the way managers don't want to set fights up because they don't want to risk fighters into potentialy losing money.
In MMA, it doesn't matter if a fighter has lost a ton of fights because that next fight might still be an exciting one and it should be the same in boxing. Aren't we always saying "styles make fights"? Then why don't the promoters live by those phylosophies? For example, we might never see Cotto vs Margarito because Cotto's people don't want to risk Cotto even though it might be a legendary fight, reguardless of who wins.
Until Don King and Bob Arum's old asses' die, we won't see anything change in that reguard I'm afraid. That's why I truly hope that Oscar DeLaHoya truly cares about boxing and changes the cycle of greed and corruption that those two have left. I think DLH can make a bigger impact after his boxing career than he did while he was in it........hopefully.Comment

And I think its clear, you're the only wanker in here, spanking off to Larry Merchant no doubt...
What I'm saying is one guy sucks but Dana White obviously hired a guy who he thought new younger fans would recognize, and he's a guy that can follow the holds for the non-experienced MMA Fans... How many teen-agers would want to sit through Larry Merchant rambling on and on and on and then arguing with the ring veterans and professionals, especially when he's wrong more often than not... ?Comment
