What is a boxers OBJECTIVE IN A FIGHT?

Jesus, I didn't even notice... crazy.
Notice I said slick, meaning they don't have a lot of power. Cory Spinks should be thinking **** excitement. Arturo Gatti should be thinking EXCITEMENT FTW! because that is the best way he knows how to win.
As a general rule, except for a select few fighters (Mayorga, Pacquiao, etc.) a fighter should not be worried about making their fighting style exciting, it should just come with the best way you fight.Comment

I agree that they shouldn't be worried about excitement foremost... but "**** excitement"? That's too much.Jesus, I didn't even notice... crazy.

Take Malignaggi, for example: Slickster with featherdusters for fists. but he still knows when to turn it on. Whittaker was the same way. So was Roy. I think you can be exciting without endangering your game plan.Comment

I guess that is true... If you get a guy worn down, then excitement is called for. I didn't think of that (for some reason, it's not a tough concept).I agree that they shouldn't be worried about excitement foremost... but "**** excitement"? That's too much.

I can tell you that Vernon Forrest should have said **** excitement in his first fight against Mayorga.Comment

Congratulations on the 5k posts man. And I agree people like Gatti often try to outbox people and receive the elast amount fo punishment but they can't basically so earm there money by giving excitment. It is always better to be a slick boxer than an exciting one.Comment

Well.. I think he was actually thinking **** excitement. It's just that he was caught off guard by Mayorga's crazy style. He didn't willingly engage, is what I mean.Comment

You might want to watch Forrest-Mayorga I again. He ****ing engaged Mayorga at all speed. Absolute toe-to-toe.
The dumbest strategy imaginable to be honest.Comment

I don't agree with that.
Throughout the early part of the fight, Vernon was boxing Mayorga. It was only when he got caught with a punch and went down for the first time that he began to slug it out- and that partially wasn't of his own accord. So I think that he initially came into the fight with a boxing mentality, until he was rocked by Mayorga and forced to fight.Comment

Three things, in this order.
Win.
Look Impressive.
Entertain.
KO Opponent.
Make Sure You Don't Get Hurt.
All there is to it.Comment
