rj will come in and out and show great movement he wont be there for Calzaghe to hit and Roys chin has nothing to worry about against Joe Cals slaps..err punches.

I still think a 38 Roy Jones can beat a 35 year old Joe Cal.

I also believe RJ still has enough power to make Joe Call think twice about throwing so many punches which leaves calz open alot.

I think RJ pulls out a close one....115-113....UD.
Some decent points...but I see a few problems

First off, Sakio Bika - not on Jr's or Joe's level...he doesn't enter into the discussion-except to say the obvious: Calzaghe takes alot of easy defences.

Manfredo...didn't belong in the ring with Calzaghe, period

Kessler, on the other hand is a very good fighter. And he will probably be the top super-middleweight in Calzaghe's absence. Regarding him being a "statue": he has a very upright style, but I think he has a very solid defence and he is by no means easy to hit like Bika was/is. You are seriously underestimating him.

      *most importantly*
Regarding Jr's movement...like I said, he simply does not have it anymore. In his prime, and even a bit past prime, Jones could move like no other. Now, he simply backs into the corner.

He still has hand speed, not to be confused with foot speed. He can't slip those punches with is feet anymore, which is why he was knocked out by Tarver and Johnson. Hand speed simply isn't enough for Jones' nowadays, and I think he is much worse for wear in terms of chin and everything else than Calzaghe is despite the relatively small age difference

You forgot what will be the deciding factor in this fight..Roys power which is vastly superior to Calzaghes.

he doesnt have what he once had, that is true but he still has more than any of the last 5 guys joe has faught. joe could easly go in there and try to fight, the style he has grown use to with the guy in front of him. yeah kessler blocked shots, but when your arm travels those extra inches because there was nothing there it means he has to pull his arms back longer distance and faster than he is use to makeing him tire

But as you well know, he doesn't have the chin to match. Of the two, Calzaghe has the better chin, the better punch output, even (at this point) the better movement. If Calzaghe lands 3 to one of his "slaps" against the recently glass-jawed Jones (k.o'ed by weak-punching Glen Johnson), there is no mystery as to the victor.

Does Jones' really have the power to offset his glaring defects, and what about confidence; Joe is sure to have more (coming off his greatest win) and Jr sure to have less (coming off wins against the medicore and K.O. losses against the better)

This would be a much more entertaining fight than the Hopkins one for sure. I'm a big RJJ fan and I think had the fight happened 4+ years ago, Roy would have won a comfortable decision (I won't say KO, Joe has a pretty decent beard and good head movement.) Aside from Joe's hands being screwed, causing him to throw more punches with less stank on them, he's still quite a bit closer to prime than Roy is. Roy still has decent handspeed, but his foot movement and his ability to pull back to avoid punches isn't nearly the same. Nevertheless, a good, competitive fight, with a slight edge to Joe.
