It's not that it was boring it is that the fight was outrageously hyped to be a fight for the ages and well...........it wasn't.

The true value of the De La Hoya v Mayweather fight will only be seen in years to come. When this fight was made people were excited because it was the first superfight for a number of years and featured boxing's most marketable individual against it's most talented. The fight was more or less confirmed before Mayweather fought Baldomir so there was a long build up to the fight which contributed to the hype surrounding and consequently resulted in alot of cynicism, within the boxing community and without, which meant that the fight would and could never live up to expectations.

As it transpired, the fight did not provide the fireworks that many were hoping for but it was definitely one of the best fights of the year and could by no means be called a bore. Some people liked the fight and alot didn't but the numbers told the story of how successful the fight was but even more importantly than that was that people were once again talking about boxing.

Since May there has been a massive feel-good factor about the sport and the viewing figures in the final third of the year lend credence to the opinion that boxing is not, as some people have said, dead but is in fact at the beginning of a successful comeback and for that Messrs De La Hoya and Mayweather must take a lot of the credit.

Decent fight for the first 7 rounds (though no where near lived up to the hype), after that no so much, except for maybe a little in the last round.

I thought the fight was very good, but I am a fan of boxing.
Many non boxing fans bought the fight and were expecting some type of Rocky/Contender ****, and with two boxers in the ring that was clearly not going to happen.
And without nonstop action or a dramatic stoppage, there was just no way that DLH v Mayweather could live up to the hype.
Overall I thought it was a good fight, and an enjoyable affair.

I think a lot of the negativity came from people who were only part-time boxing fans and don't eally appreciate the art of boxing. Hence for them excitment in a fight only come from fighters going toe2toe and trading punches.

Unfortunately these type of guys considered Mayweathers tactics to be boring since he was not interested in taking the fight to DLH.

Now i'm not saying everyone who didn't like the fight doesn't appreciate boxing as an art, but this fight was so large that it attracted a lot of casual fans who unfortunately were always going to be dissappointed.

For me it was a great fight since watching 2 top quality boxers plying their trade is always fascinating regardless of their style.
