I think the fact that we have both, and everything in between, is what makes this sport so great. I've always wondered why guys like Ali, who could have avoided George's slow, wide punches all night long, would choose to lay against the ropes and absorb the punishment that he did (though he did block most of it.)

I would rather not get hit either, but watching two guys go at it for 12 rounds, neither of them landing a single punch on the other, would get boring after a while.

I garee with you for the most part Kaynan.
But having a great beard can't hurt either.
You can take a punchers confidence away, by having them hit you with their best shot, and keep on coming back for more some times. I've seen it happen.

And Gatti and Chin should never be uttered in the same sentence.
Gatti had balls and fortitude, but chin? Naw....

I personally prefer the finesse side of boxing. And who says you can't mix finesse with brawling? Their are some very technical brawls in this sport.

And I'm not saying I aint entertained by a great slugfest.

The Ali that faced Foreman was not the same, young, quick mover of his younger days. He was at the point where he was more stationary and relied a lot more on strategy and caginess to beat his opponents.

Yeah, but c'mon, Foreman was so slow, people would move out of the way and move back and get hit with the punch because it was still coming. If Jimmy Young could outbox George, I know Ali could do it, even at that age.

He did outbox him, just in a different way. Young was a much different fighter than Ali.

You are underestimating Foreman greatly. He wasn't as slow as you think, he wasn't fast either but his punches were VERY hard (perhaps the hardest in the history of HW's), he punched a lot and he worked all kinds of punches. Foreman was a walking windmill of jabs, hooks, straights and uppercuts.
That is until he gassed of course.

Foreman wasn't exactly a boxer-puncher but the way he handled Frazier was the perfect way to beat a come-forward pressure fighter. He also destroyed Norton in 2 rounds, a man who fought Ali 3 times, all fights going the distance.

Ali knew that with his diminishing speed it was completely useless to dance around Foreman who was one of the best at cutting off the ring. So after throwing a lot of punches and expending a lot of energy trying to dance around Foreman in the first round he started laying on the ropes to get rest while Foreman whacked himself to unconsciousness in the heat.

Ali showed people he still had it by slipping hundreds of Foreman's punches and taking some flush too.

When Jimmy Young fought Foreman, he wasn't the man he used to be. And even then the fight was quite close. And Jimmy Young gave a past-prime Ali lots of trouble in their match, some people believe he was robbed.

I'm the same way man, hence my screen name.
But hell, who dosen't love a slug fest?

The people on here that I respect, knowledge wise, are the ones that can appreciate a great, tactician in the ring. Not the fanbois caught up in the, Jim Lampley voice "BLOOD AND GUTS" end Jim Lampely voice, dudes that want every fight to be Gatti vs Ward.

Do I like to see a brawl end in a vicious decapitation? Hell yes.
But I also like the little things that most people miss in fights.
                  But thats me.
