That fight shouldn't have even been stopped. The referee never counted to 10. The Ring Magazine publisher called Walcott over to say that Liston had been down for 10 seconds, but the rule is you have to beat the ref's count, not a 10 second timer. So Liston was up and fighting again only to have the fight stopped by a boxing writer.

See to me it look very much like a dive but because of the legend ali turned out to be I wouldn't be surprised if it was legit. If Ali had turned out to be rubbish after fight then I'm pretty sure everyoe would think it was a dive.

When you look at that punch it was pretty short and compact and could have very well KO'ed Liston, but at the time he was regarded as a tough as nails man that nobody could KO with one punch. He may have not gotten paid, but threatened by the Black ******s as well.

Some punches don't have to be dramatic to be fight-ending. It was a solid punch and he didn't see it coming.

To me it looks like Ali is standing over him, and Liston is waiting for him to go to a neutral corner before getting up. Sonny starts to get up and Ali runs at him, and he lays back down. When Ali finally goes to a neutral corner Walcott starts counting, Liston gets up, beating the count, but then the timekeeper tells Walcott that the fight is over. Pretty shady.

Controversial ending, VERY MUCH SO. But to say a man took a dive, is a pretty big claim. One I'm not comfortable with throwing around.
