You're right....overall levels are not as high as boxing. Again its a silly and obvious fact...how long has MMA been around(I'm talking about with all the current rules, rounds, gloves)? What 10 years? Its a sport that is evolving at an incredible pace...in the future the athletes entering MMA will kept getting better and better and the guys themselves will be superior to fighters today for the simple fact they will be cross training at an early age. In the future there is going to be a lot of fighters resembling what Anderson Silva is today(Consider the best p4p MMA fighter in the world by some) Athletic, Excellent striking(Not just hands...kicks, elbows knees), excellent ground game(Hes a Black Belt in Brazilian jiujutsu).
Boxing has such a rich history and is a much more focused form of fighting. Its the sport of punching...MMA is basically the sport of fighting. There is such a wide variety of fighting techniques are used that it makes it extremely difficult to have a perfect record.
With that said it is completely ignorant to compare MMA fighters records with Boxing records. The sports are apples to oranges. You can not make any significant mistakes in a MMA fight. If you do the fight will most likely be over..thats pretty much a fact and anyone who watches MMA has seen it time and time again over the years. You are allowed to use a hell of a lot more weapons, there are more ways to win a fight, you are wearing 4 oz gloves, theres no count if you go down....how the heck can you compare the two? Losing is a part of the sport ...and it says something about the few guys in MMA who don't lose.
Really the motto in MMA is "If you're undefeated then you're not fighting the right guys"
