his most notable win before fighting Mayweather was Manfredy.. I know.
But since he was undefeated when he fought Mayweather, I am considering it a valuable win.

Plus the way he dominated Chico, not everyone does that.

Corrales was undefeated and was running everyone over until he met Floyd. And he towered over Floyd. Corrales wasn't elite but it was a very good win. He beat Castillo TWICE in his prime. He beat Zab Judah who is a good fighter. De La Hoya and Hatton are also good fighters. Name me a GREAT fighter he should have fought back then?

Matter of fact Oscar is a great fighter. But was out of his prime.

Hopefully it'd be Cotto. Floyd is already a hall of famer. I don't care what anyone says. He'll never be the best ever though. His resume isn't good enough.
On the contrary, If Mayweather fights Willaims now and Williams goes on to make a name for himself afterwords and makes a good name of himself that will only further Mayweathers status for beating him.

Title's don't mean as much as they used to, what matters most to me is the opposition that person has fought. Like someone mentioned in another thread, Gatti heald titles in two divisions. Paulie Malignaggi holds a title for gods sake.

But Williams would be an easier fight(in my opinion) than Cotto. Cotto fans would be protesting forever. I don't think Floyd is gonna fight both.

you're still taking what im saying the wrong way. "i said he fought talented fighters and beat them on that given night" . noway in hell was i saying judah,mitchell.etc... were greats.
floyd is just fighting in the wrong era. there will be people who will always say, "he couldnt beat this guy or he didnt fight this guy". we have legends today, b-hop and sugar ray himself saying floyd is the best of this era.

Yeah, I agree Cotto means more. And I would want to see the Cotto fight before any other one. It would be great if he did though.

No one would say anything about Floyd if he would have fought for the legacy and not for the money, I highly doubt if he cleared out the division that anyone would question his credentials in any era and Floyd gives any champ of any era a run for their money. Some peoples priorities are in different places then others though and Mayweather's wasn't on a legacy, it was about making money to make sure him and his family along with future generations could be set financially and not be poor like he was. This is why I'm starting to understand why he no longer wants to fight and if he wants to retire so be it. He did what he came to do and had a good run doing it.

People are comparing his opposition to Ray Leonard (which isn't fair to say the least), but let's see what the Sugar man himself has to say about his p4p successor.

"Floyd's number one this era. He's proved that, against Oscar, now against Ricky Hatton. He's fought the best fighters of his era, so that puts him up there. There's a few more fights left in Floyd, and bigger and better things to come." - SRL on Money Mayweather (2007)
