I think if Joe could beat B-Hop, Winky and Pavlik convincingly he'd go down as a definate Hall of Famer. I think his problem is somewhat like that of Roy Jones: They say he ain't fighting nobody, he just makes them LOOK like nobody.
Joe Calzaghe has been in fights that nobody gave him a chance of winning, yet do you see any losses on his record, the only fights he came close to losing were against Robin Reid and Byron Mitchell, he KO'd Mitchell and some would say he got a gift against Reid. One gift in a 44 fight career aint bad, at least hes no Sven Ottke.
As for Hopkins, Winky and Pavlik, I cant see any of those people beating him, heres why:
Hopkins: Hopkins would get outworked, its as simple as that. People say he will throw Joe off, but only by fouling. Calzaghe has dominated fights he was fouled constantly in before, Sakio Bika was a dirty fighter, he came nowhere near beating Joe.
Winky: Winky is too small to beat Joe, and as great as his defense is, I cant see him keeping Calzaghe from outboxing him.
Pavlik: To beat Joe you need more than just raw power, sadly Pavlik doesnt have the skills.
If there is any justice, Joe will be a HOFer soon enough and he deserves to be an ATG.
Joe kinda reminds me of paquiao when he fights. I mean dont get me wrong cal is a master boxer while paquiao is a master brawler but the energy they both have while fighting is almost the same. And for a SMW at 35 thats pretty amazing.
I actually agree to an extent they are both stamina freaks very awkward and unconventional, Manny Pac is Calzaghe's favourite active fighter also.
On thread. Calzaghe IS the greatest Super Middleweight ever.
And that's around the time I was thinking about spending a few days in Vegas. So I'll be there to root for this great fighter, the best super middleweight of all time!
Me to. Im hoping to go to the fight. Calzaghe all the way. I really can't see him loosing.
Yer Joe is definately outstading (PFP #2 imo), however there are so many what ifs in his career though. He should had gone to the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 instead of Robin Reid and got the gold for Great Britain, that would of sky rocketed his pro career from the beginning. But he is definately getting all the praise and glory he deserves at this stage of his career.
