ONE of the best of the last 15 years. No way the best of all time.
is Mayweather the greatest of all-time?

Just as the same response to the Vitali Klitschko as one of the greatest heavyweights, NO!!!. Could Floyd give some of the greats a damn diffcult fight, yes, could he beat some of them, yes, could they turn around and beat him, yes. Thats the difference, the "greats" fought each other on a rgular basis. Floyd NEEDS the Shane Mosleys, Miguel Cotto's, Cory Spinks' (I said Spinks because of similar styles) Paul Willimas', Antonio Margarito's and others to cement himself as one of the best ever. Listen, he didn't beat De La Hoya with ease, it was close. Floyd has all the talent there is, but he hasn't proven against all the tops yet, let me emphasize yet. He has arrived to the lofty status of great, but has yet to prove how "great" he really is.Comment

No, because he hasn't fought them, and I really doubt he beats Williams, and Cotto is about 50/50. You have to beat guys to rank higher, not have fans think you could beat them. That isn't what greatness is.before I make the argument, I would just like to say that I am a mayweather hater turned fan.
Mayweather is the complete package. He has speed, head movement, glove defense, foot work, intelligence, ring generalship and you can't really say he is a power fighter but, you can say he has a deadly piston of a punch as proven against hatton.
Mayweather has beaten De La Hoya and Hatton with relative ease. These are guys who were at the top of alot of p4p lists for the past couple of years and they got dominated by mayweather. Here is a list of the top fighters in no particular order that are in a fightable weight class for mayweather: Junior Witter, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, Paul Williams, Antonio Margarito, Vernon Forrest, Andre Berto. I think most would agree that mayweather could cream all of these fighters easily. Couldn't definitly say that about any fighter in any era. Doesn't that make him the greatest of all-time?Comment

but isn't greatness dependant on point of view? I mean, when talking about skills and not who fought who, mayweather has skills like nobody else I've ever seen. And I've seen alot of the greats fight including Sugar Ray Robinson who I just saw yesterday. Ray Robinson was great, but he didn't have the total skill set that mayweather has. and to take into consideration, robinson lost 19 fights from the beginning of his career to the end to alot of nobodies. He lost to randy turpin. than he lost to a guy named joey maxim 4 fights later. I mean, mayweather fought champions throughout his career and not lost yet. So according to that, I think mayweather is the greatest this sport has ever seen.Last edited by -Swizzy-; 01-05-2008, 03:54 AM.Comment

He lost to randy turpin in his 8th fight. than he lost to a guy named joey maxim 4 fights later. I mean, mayweather fought champions throughout his career and not lost yet. So according to that, I think mayweather is the greatest this sport has ever seen.Comment

I don't think thats even relavant if I've heard of them or not. the point is, robinson is considered the greatest in most ppls all-time list, and even if turpin and maxim were great (which I don't believe maxim was at all) robinson shouldn't have lost to them if he is the greatest of all-time. mayweather hasn't lost to anyone of equal stature who is fighting right now. He has fought better fighters, relativily, and won.Last edited by -Swizzy-; 01-05-2008, 03:55 AM.Comment

Hey boxrec pro, do you know that there are 3 pages to that list? You do realize 5 of those losses were after the age of 44, and 10 of them were after the age of 40, and that the man fought 198 fights?but isn't greatness dependant on point of view? I mean, when talking about skills and not who fought who, mayweather has skills like nobody else I've ever seen. Robinson didn't lose until his 41st professional fight, to Jake LaMotta (ever heard of him, hint: raging bull), when he was outweighed by 16 pounds.
Please try to get your facts straight.Last edited by Jim Jeffries; 12-19-2007, 11:36 PM.Comment

Robinson was beating Maxim until he collapsed from sun stroke. He came back and knocked Turpin out in 10. You could argue that Mayweather lost his first fight with Jose Luis Castillo.I don't think thats even relavant if I've heard of them or not. the point is, robinson is considered the greatest in most ppls all-time list, and even if turpin and maxim were great (which I don't believe maxim was at all) robinson shouldn't have lost to them if he is the greatest of all-time. mayweather hasn't lost to anyone of equal stature who is fight now.
