The only time it's acceptable is when you or your corner knows something is really, really wrong. You got to look out for your well being so you can fight another day.

But if you're just simply getting beat and decide to quit out of frustration (or fear), then I agree, you'll be branded as a quitter for the rest of your life. No mas, no mas!

Both choices can mean lifelong or short term embarrassment.

Quitting on your stool like 'No Mas' Duran, is life long embarrassment.

Quitting on your stool like Genaro Herandez against Floyd is short term embarrassment justified by a broken nose he couldn't breathe through. (If that's true)

Getting Knocked The F Out silly like Tommy Morrison against Ray Mercer is lifelong embarrassment.

Getting knocked out like a champ, like Lennox Lewis against Rahman is temporary embarrassment.

I guess Tyson suffers from long-term embarrassment for his KO against Buster.

      Serves him right.

        Question:
Why has Tszyu never bore the burden of "quitter" for not coming out for the 12th vs. Hatton.

It was a rough fight. For sure. But it was close on the cards, and Tszyu should always have a puncher's chance.

The fight was even through 8. As soon as it started getting bad, KT bailed.

I wanna know this too. It was the last ****ing round! He said he knew Hatton had won by then and there was no point coming out for the 12th. Thats called *****-Skipping. Kosta *****-Skipped the 12th round against Hatton.

sometimes as an up & coming fighter why stay in their & take a beating when it is painfully obvious u aint gonna win & u could incure more damage that could finish any hopes u have of regrouping & being the same fighter & going on & achieving anything

sometimes u have to think logically IMO for the longevity of your career & safety there are plenty of fighters who are'nt the same fighter after being KO'D it can weaken u mentally & physically

Don Curry ,Meldrick Taylor ,Terry Norris ,RJJ , Nunn ,the list goes on & on

He knew 1 more body shot and he would be down for the count I think. I always wondered why he did it so late in the fight though, but he must have been hurting so bad to the body that he knew it was pointless to keep going.

I'm guessing he was injured and didn't want to make excuses, or he just plain knew he wasn't going to win the fight.

                  Still makes him a quitter.

I think it speaks volumees when Tszyu quit when he was in the twilight of his career as apose to in his prime the man is no quitter wether he came out or not against Hatton

Duran is no quitter & has more heart than any mother ****er on Boxingscene who claim they would take a licking rather than quit ,all ill say is talk is cheap ,Morales aint no quitter but he has sat a fight out [pacman v Morales 3]
