Holmes to me is the 2nd best HW behind Rocky Marciano and Wlad isnt in the top 50.
Larry Holmes and Wlad Klitschko

wlad would actually have a decent chance against holmes and probably give him a tough fight.
holmes was kind of a sucker for a straight right, which is one of wlad's best punches. wlad is pretty quick of hand and has about 3-4 inches in height and 30 pounds or so in weight on holmes.
holmes would hand quitali his head, but larry would have his hands full with wlad.Comment

marciano would get crushed by a huge modern heavyweight like lewis and his resume is not exactly ali-esque, nor did he reign for a long time like louis.
and about his undefeated record, that's very nice, but according to newspaper accounts, he could've easily lost his decisions to lowry and lastarza.
49-0, 48-1, or 47-2 (43) are all excellent, but there is only a holy duo of heavyweights all time (muhammad, joe), not a holy trio.Comment

Holmes stops Wladimir in 9, Holmes has the best jab in Heavyweight history IMO. Had one of the best chins in Heavyweight history i still don't know how he got up from over hand right of Shavers that was damn scary shot. Wladimir has good skills but he has suspect chin, suspect stamina, and he is basically the best of of a bad bunch of slow plodding Heavyweights. This fight would be jab fest with both men doing well but in 7th round Holmes would get dropped by right hand from Wladimir, Holmes gets up but is still hurt Wladimir charges after Holmes and tries to finish him and lands another right hand followed by left hook, but Holmes holds on and and uses his movement to survive the round. Now Wladimir is tired from trying to finish Holmes off, Wladimir starts to lose a grip on the fight and Holmes has good 8th round. then in the 9th round Holmes sensing that Wladimir hasn't got much left, throws left jab followed by straight right hand right and it catches Wladimir right on the chin and it puts Wladimir down. Wladimir gets up but is still badly shaken and Holmes charges after Wladimir and measures him with his jab and hits Wladimir right on the chin with another right hand followed by an uppercut and Wlad crumbles to the canvas and the ref stops the fight.Comment

No hating here. you are probably right. Wlad is just too big for the 80's HW's. I'd even say, he'd probably beat Ali too. Holmes and Ali's peers didnt have the height and reach of Wlad. They get respect because they were the best of their peer group. Wlad is the best of his peer group. Wlad's peer group seems to include 6'2" or taller Hw's. many weigh over 230lbs. Ali and holmes fought in an era where 220 was considered a HUGE HW.
That being said, i think most modern HW's use roids. Its funny how every other sport is really being exposed for its major players being involved with Roids. Since the Balco scandal, how many fights has Wlad had in the US?? Personally, I think many HW's, if cut, would bleed HGH...Comment

He wasn't too big for 225, 6,3 Ross Puritty.
He wasn't too big for 225, 6,4 Corries Sanders.
He wasn't too big for 226, 6,2 Lamon Brewster.
Larry Holmes could easily be 215+ and be in great condition. Wladimir is too slow and robotic for Holmes, yes he is fast for his size and has good skills. But he would be made too look like he was stuck in the mud by Holmes who was much faster with his jab and footwork. Plus Holmes had much better chin and stamina.Comment

stop living in your fantasy land, Wlad could'nt KO Williamson or Peter yet he would KO one of the best HW's with a good chin of all time?
and next time Wladimir is mentioned in the same sentense as Holmes im going to pukeLast edited by Parody; 12-20-2007, 07:08 AM.Comment
