    The Douglas who beat Mike

I just saw that fight again and damn Douglas looked good. That was the best Buster Douglas there could be.

Anyone else think he would have given anyone problems that night?

Everyone always blames it on Tyson for being a **** up and losing to a bum but wow Buster was no bum that night...He looked great.

    No?

He definitely fought the fight of his life. Combination of Mike not being there mentally and physically, but Buster also had something to do with the outcome that night.

Agree, Douglas was on that night, but it helped having an unmotivated, untrained, beaver chasing, out of control Tyson being the opponent. Tyson's teams said they had problems just getting him on the plane to go to Japan..

There was one article way back I read, and I think it was actually Berbick who was interviewed, where he said Mike was getting schooled in sparring and everybody was shocked...all before leaving for Japan. I wish I still had the article so I could cement who was doing the talking.

Paige knocked him down, people know that. I also think this was the time when McCall put him down with a body shot.

For a 6'3 1/2, 230 pound fighter, Douglas was certainly fast and sharp. He had some good fights going into that fight. He was motivated and ready to live up to his athletic potential. Shame, once he reached his goal he threw it away. Motivation is key for any fighter.

I still think he should have given Tyson the rematch.

Well Tyson might not have ended up in Prison had he got the rematch. But considering how Buster blew up in weight for the Holyfield fight, Tyson would have owned him in the rematch. I think if Buster and Mike fought 10 times, Mike would win 9.

I just think the fact that is was prime Tyson vs Douglas makes people take a lot away from Douglas.

As bad as Mike was that night, I still don't see anyone else of that era doing that to him.

Even the way Douglas came back from the knockdown. Most fighters would have been done from that uppercut, but he was so hungry and in such great shape, he came out the next round like it never happened.

You could see when he went down he pounded the canvas like...you could see what he was thinking..."**** that" lol

Douglas was so ready for that **** it was nuts. He honestly looked as good as any heavyweight could have looked that night. I really think he would have given anyone problems.

Not sayin he would have beat anyone, but I think he would have been a headache for anyone.

Douglas was always good he had wins over guy like mccall before the tyson fight. I think the reason that he is so underrated is because of what happened to him after the tyson fight. If he hadn’t blown up in weight and came in focused against holyfield he wouldn’t be called a bum, the people that call douglas a bum have only seen the tyson and holyfield fights.

It was a out of shape tyson if he wasnt there physically or mentally then how can u say tyson was in his prime? he even knocked douglas down.
People take alot away from douglas cause theres alot to take away from him and thats jus fact but he was the better fighter on the night he wanted it more.

Buster did look great that night he had his jab working for him straight right..but when Tyson droped him that was a long long count..I counted like to 12. Tyson was looking past him becuase after that he was suppose to fight Holyfield.

                    Similar with Naz and Barrera.

but a lose is a lose. Douglas came into his biggest fight of the night and he got the chance to shine. part was luck because it wasnt the best version of Tyson but sometimes luck could win you a fight.

similar to Baldomir vs Zab Judah.
