But to be honest. Both these fighters are the heart of boxing at the moment, and are key contributors to its success. Floyd vs Hatton sold 850 000 PPVS. De La Hoya vs Floyd sold 2.4 Million PPV's.

The sport needs De La Hoya and Floyd to keep winning and winning well. Setting up an eventual rematch in a few years time. Just for the sake of boxing continuing to be popular for a couple more years. Until new fighters like Cotto, Katsidis etc etc have legacies and wide support that can draw in these numbers.

Oscar more so, but both he and Floyd are imperitive to the success of boxing.

They have to ask themselves. We have all the money to retire. But will the sport continue to go gang busters without us? For this reason they need to fight for at least another 2-3 years.
Dude, that's a load of Bull **** in regards to Mayweather. That man is a machine when it comes to Training. I don't know how you can make that statement "they don't want to train anymore", yeah DLH has come into fights in poor condition, but not Floyd.

Floyd said he wanted a break, yeah that Break could be 6-12 Months and that might just be talk or something else to help him negotiate his next pay day.

DLH is a different story and not painted with the same brush as Mayweather. DLH doesn't stay in shape between fights.

Do really think Floyd would be out of shape??? I'm sure he'll be back on light training before you know it fight or no fight on the horizon.

Oscar is old. If floyd cares about the fate of boxing more than his health, he has the skills to carry it to new heights.

I don't mean it as Floyd is out of shape. I know Floyd trains hard, hes in shape all year round. They say that on every boxing show.

I mean. When you train hard for so long to be fit. They eventually find themselves wanting a break from the harsh training. They have to want to rest, from the harsh realities of boxing training. Thats what im getting at.

Not just yet though. In a couple of years, then i would say yes.

I was wondering how many PPVs Cotto vs Mosley sold aswell? Cheers.

If boxing deserves to survive, it will survive. Boxing goes up and down; it's just the way it is.

Floyd should care about his health first because he has his children to worry about, and of course, himself.

Floyd is already 30, and doesn't quite fight the same...he isn't getting any better.

Floyd devoted his entire life to boxing; he doesn't need to do anymore for the sport.

There is a deal that is made between the fighter and the sport: something is taken out of you permanently and in return, you are paid. If you are lucky, you are paid well.

I'm saying he has a choice, I'm not saying which is the right one.

PBFM & Oscar are both legendary great fighters & great champions. But there is alot of other fighters who are relatively young who could still do big things in the sport. Sam Peter, Chad Dawson, Miguel Cotto, Amir Khan, Andre Berto, Kelly Pavlik, Paul Williams, & even Jermain Taylor still just to name a few. Still have a chance to do some great things in their careers & for boxing.

to call DLH and Mayweather the only heart of boxing is kind of a disrespect to younger guys who will be around for the future

Dawson, Manny, Juan Diaz, Darchinyan, Vasquez, Marquez, Kessler, Pavlik, Taylor, Miranda, Green, Berto, Donaire, Guzman, Valero, Paul Williams, Margarito

Boxing has those guys and so much more...I like DLH, but we don't "NEED" more mega fights for him to continue to lose just for the sake of raking in a few more bucks...we have plenty of good fighters to build stars out of

                    You nailed it.
DLH has been in big fights since 1996 and a few semi big fights before that. You can't expect these guys to keep on fighting because they're the biggest draws in the sport.
