  • Where Were Hatton's Body Shots?

This is a serious thread and I really want to know your thoughts about it, no clowning. I think it was like in the 9th round when Lampley said "Hatton is still having some moments when he gets Floyd on the ropes and gets to unload on him". Then Manny responded by saying, "yeah but he's still not landing any clean shots. He hasnt even landed his trademark left hook to the body not one time all night".

Everyone who gave Hatton a chance in this fight said that his body work would give Floyd hell, e****ally coming off that Castillo KO. I seriously dont remember him landing a significant body shot all night. Why was that?

I do remember in-between rounds Grahm telling Hatton "your too close and your smothering your own punches. You have to back up so you can land to the body. You cant land your body shots from that close".

Do you think Grahm was right? I also remember in the last episode of 24/7 where Roger was thowing those body shots on Floyd and he was picking them off and countering back with the same hand. Was that the reason? Did Floyd's great D just take it away all night? Was it something that Hatton didnt do? Actually it was Floyd's body shots that really started to take over the fight. He doesnt get enough credit for his body work but he does go down there alot in all of his fights.

Also, does this show you anything in terms of a Cotto fight. Obviously he fights a little different then Hatton but could Floyd also take away Cotto's hooks to the body? I dont think many wouldve predicted that Hatton wouldnt land hardly any clean body shots in 10 full rounds

I think it was a combination of Mayweathers great defense and Hatton tightening up and letting the occasion get to him.

i re-watched the hatton fight on sky the other night. constantly he was too close to floyd. usually he takes half steps back where he can gain leaverage and find angles for his body work. i agree with micky about the occasion getting to him and he seemed to lose his head, you can never fight angry especially against a guy as smart and talented as floyd. i also think floyd was hurting ricky from the very outset with his straight right hands, so that prob discouraged ricky to come off mayweathers chest and allow floyd the opportunity to get his own shots off

Graham was right. Hatton was too close to Mayweather to unload his punches with much power and find the right angles for his body shots. Mayweather's right hands didn't help matters either.

I was thinking during the fight Hatton is throwing any body shots and hasnt seemed to landed any as well.
Some one the other day uploaded a youtube fight when Hatton was young and he was a different looking fighter. Letting his body punches go and then out of range again.

I definatly agree with the last thing you said. I think Hatton felt that any time there was distance then Floyd would out fight him so he tried to stay attached to Floyd all night. It was ok early but the longer the fight went then the more he started wearing down and when that space opened up then Floyd would kill him

agreed. i couldn't believe how floyd was able to get his shots off from such little space, all he needed was 6-8 inches at times

to me this is why the Cotto fight could be a classic. Alot of people will say that Cotto is much bigger & stronger then Hatton so he would kill Floyd on the inside. I say that Cotto is definatly bigger & stronger so Floyd would have hell dealing with that but on the plus side Cotto wont be stuck on him like Hatton was and that will allow Floyd to be able to fire back all night with just a little space. Cotto will definatly be on Floyd but he wont get so close to where he is stuck on him. Its good for Cotto because he can unload his shots much easier then Hatton but its bad for him because Floyd can counter back much easier with that space he couldnt get against Hatton for stretches

i can see what your saying, the only thing i'd worry about is cotto's footwork and handspeed. do you think cotto can get himself into position quick enough using his feet AND unload shots before floyd picks him off?? im not so sure. no doubt that if this fight happens the ring will be big again, favouring floyd. i was impressed by cotto against shane but it was definitely a faded SSM, i still pick floyd to win a UD

Mayweather was prepared to defend body shots because ricky hatton is a known body puncher but at the same time if hatton gave him any room for some body shots he would of tasted mayweathers quick hands.
Ricky did what he had to do but we all know hatton is a light welter not a welter hes always fought bad at welterwieght.
He just wasnt the better fighter on the night he started to get angrey rushing into floyds rights and way to close to floyd but it was working til he got tired and angrey.
