Another Black Eye for (Everyone But) Boxing

By Jake Donovan - "Sorry to bug ya… did what did you think of the fight last weekend? I never heard of those guys, but I can't wait to see them again."

Prior to 2007, the aforementioned was a conversation that rarely took place on a Monday morning. While I made the most of the entertainment boxing has provided in recent years, many of the sport's best moments in recent years went largely unnoticed by anyone outside of the fraternity.

This year? As sure as I am that at least one office rat would whine every morning that they can't function without first getting their coffee fix, I also knew to anticipate the general co-worker strolling into my office nearly every Monday morning asking me about a major fight occurring the preceding Saturday.

Boxing gave sports fans plenty to talk about, particularly in the last 12 or so weeks. For a change, most of the talk was positive. In fact, it seemed boxing was the one sport unaffected by a major scandal of sorts (and no, yet another Mike Tyson arrest and brief prison stint does not qualify as a boxing scandal). [details]

this year had my pro MMA anti Boxing friends making up all types of excuses as to why MMA didnt have a better year than Boxing and according to them, it wasnt because of the quality of fights in Boxing this year. That means Boxing had a REALLY good year.

Great Article......Boxing is back baby hey MMA FANS The numbers are great for boxing all they need to do is promote and advertise correctly and 08 will be even better. 24/7 is a great idea to hype fights and I hope they continue to do so....I hope HBO and Top Rank,GBPand Dibella etc realize this and dont lose the mo. It is amazing with virtually no mainstream coverage and all the best fights on PPV that boxing could do so well. Hey Dana White

Jake, I'm pretty sure over 50% boxer are on roids, if you think boxing is clean of steroids then you must be living in a closet.

Most top fighters that are on roids are protected, this is boxing my friend, you must've forgot.

I don't deny that some fighters are juiced (beyond the ones that have been previously busted, of course). 50% is a severe exaggeration, though, even if you're just limiting to the top level, or even A- and B-level fighters.

I've always said that if boxing would just have the best fight the best the fans would come. Thats exactly what is happening in boxing right now and the sport is doing well because of it.

Your friends are wrong though, boxing had some very good fights this year.
