    What?

    How is Wlad then?

Compare with other Russians like Mikhail Baryshnikov, Anna Kurnikova, Yul Brynner, etc.

Or how about in other sports with non-Americans like Ichiro, Manny Ramirez (although he is now a citizen), David Ortiz, Yoa, Dirk Nowitzki, etc.

if you werent race obessed, which i know for a fact you are, you wouldnt be making this thread in the first place.

the reason why white americans dont get into guys like Wlad and other eastern europeans is the same way most black americans dont rally behind guys like Ouma, Ndou and Quartey, different culture, different way of life, if the only thing you have in common is race and thats it, that isnt reason enough to just get behind someone.

I mean, its like how people were saying that ricky hatton was some kind of draw in america when that isnt the case at all, a guy like ricky hatton being english will never ever have the crossover appeal to even alot of white americans, because hes not american, thats just how it is. Its like a puerto rican fighter being a draw in mexico, its just not going to happen.

those guys play for franchises, franchises get the support of fans because they have a traditional fanbase that is unrelenting. I mean in boxing there are no franchises, so we look for reasons to be interested. Any player that is key to helping a franchise achieve victory will be loved, because they are helping that team recapture former glory that made you like the franchise in the first place.

Team sports dont need great personalities and all that other ****, team sports players only need to do one thing, produce.

The Klitschkos aren't Russian... Am I allowed to say that Floyd Mayweather is Canadian because he's from Michigan? Hey, close enough...

Which franchise does Yul Brinner play for? What about Anna Kournikova or Maria Sharapova?

i wasnt talking about them. Even then, those guys play in a established sport thats on TV all the time regardless, Kournikova was just for looks. Sharapova and her consistency in tournaments coupled with her rivalry with the williams sisters and other top female tennis stars gives her the exposure she deserves.

Either way those are all tennis stars, my post was directed at the multiple baseball/basketball stars listed.

Race, in a sense is important to a casual fan. Maybe it shouldn't be, but it is. Don't like it? Watch another sport. It's always been this way, always will be. Boxing is the most honest sport, in this sense, and race becomes atleast SLIGHTLY important to the majority of boxing fans.

The Great WHITE Hope thing, in fact, still exists. Because when it was coined, the person was FIRST OF ALL, talking about in the Heavyweight division. Second of all, talking about an American.

WLAD OWNS is actually pretty obsessed with race. Which is fine. I don't care. But, he should stop acting like he doesn't ESSENTIALLY like ONLY white fighters.

Now, let's think about this. More Mexican and Black fighters on a world level, right? I mean, in terms of most organizations rankings, the ring rankings, ESPN rankings. More Mexican and Black, right? Or, Black and Hispanic. How ever you'd like to look at it. Then it'd go Asian, then white.

So, you have a high chance of liking fighters that AREN'T WHITE. Which is strange, considering WLAD OWNS' top ten has NINE white guys in it.

That's not race obsessed? Or is that one of the biggest ****ing coincidences, EVER?

Once again, Sonofisis is just as race obsessed, but the other way around. I'm not arguing that. However, this thread isn't about him claiming black fighters get a bad rap.

Furthermore, it's not just "white guys." America just doesn't like FOREIGN guys. Closest we get is Mexican fighters, WHO ARE FOREIGN, but are also supported by a lot of other foreigners in the country. Otherwise, we prefer our own. We'd pick a BLACK American over a WHITE foreigner anyday.

Same time, we'd LOVE a WHITE American over a WHITE foreigner, or black foreigner.

In a lot of ways, honestly, it's not about race. It's actually nationality.
