Does it suck that they have higher taxes, smaller population, smaller salaries? Yes. Sorry.
That's life though. And in business, it's all about generating MONEY.
The U.S. did more of that.
That's what DRAWING comes from. Drawing a crowd is one thing, and anyone can do it if the price is THAT low (not saying the U.K.'s was, I'm giving an example)
You show a fight for 5 bucks, ANYWHERE, it'll outsell a lot of things.
You price it high, the numbers drop.
If this fight was 15 dollars less, it would've made up the difference and still had generated more money.Comment

I don't know what people are complaining about, 850,000 PPV's is a good success. Before ESPN mentioned 1.5 million buys, i don't recall anyone predicting it would be that much. I figured it would do between 800,000 and a million. Plus, you add the 900,000 UK buys, that's great!Comment

But numbers don't have to lie, to be misleading.
You offer someone water and I'm doing the same thing, and yours is half the price of mine, who outsells who?
Answer that honestly?
Why don't you guys mention how much MONEY the fight generated over there, compared to here?
It doesnt even compare mate... Hatton is a cash God Compared to Money May..Comment

How much money did the PPV generate.

The only way to really factor if Floyd is a draw, is by him fighting a guy like Paul Williams. Williams is virtually unknown to the casual fan, and hardly has a fanbase. Both Oscar and Tyson pulled in big numbers fighting unpopular opponents. I guess that's why Floyd only wants to fight superstar opponents. He needs thier fanbase in order to draw big numbers.Comment

The PPV cash generated was 13.5 million GBP... which when compared to USD makes it about 28 million... now to comapre those numbers to the USA.. you then have to multiply by 5 to even the population ratio...
It doesnt even compare mate... Hatton is a cash God Compared to Money May..
Does it have more ACTUAL value, if you make it in a smaller pond? No.
Your money is worth more, true. But you still made less.
Ever hear someone say "He made 2 million for that movie in 19?? which is todays equal on 15 million"
If you go to box office records though, 15 still beats 2. No matter how you cut it.Comment

Floyd was coming off an impressive win against Gatti. A fighter in which Floyd used his fanbase in order to get recognized. Baldi beating Judah didnt hurt either. All im saying is, Floyd is the number 1pfp in the sport right now. That in conjuction with him fighting popular opponents with large fanbases is always going to be a success. He cant do it on his own. He doesnt have a huge following/fanbase ala Tyson, Oscar, and Hatton.Last edited by deevel79; 12-17-2007, 02:04 PM.Comment

Now, if Mayweather is a lesser draw? So? Why would I even care? Let's say I was even a huge nuthugger of his? Why would it bother me? He still won.
Popularity polls don't win you fights. Don't win you rounds. Don't win you even MORE money, both in contract or in drawing it.
That's, the honest truth. As far as Mayweather not being a draw.
You can believe that if you'd like. I don't care. Fact is, whoever he fights next will get his biggest payday, and the numbers will be good, again.Comment
