Yeah, I never saw Joe that good. He went into a "do-or-die" mode that really upped his game. Maybe he and Frank didn't even know that extra level was there.
When the fight was made I was talking to a friend of mine that used to box and we were discussing the up-coming fight between them. The first thing we discussed was that Lacy threw wide shots while Joe, although sometimes could get sloppy, can throw right down the middle, and as long as he stuck with that, he had a very good shot. It goes back to what Ali said when he fought George: George would throw those big roundhouse shots, and Ali would just pop him with straight shots. You not only are able to land more straight shots against a wide-shot fighter, but also take him out mentally.
To beat a southpaw fighter you have to use the jab and the right-cross, and of course move to your side...something Lacy didn't do much of, if at all.
