Roy Jones Jr. Question...(In reguards to ducking fighters)

Usually the five fighters that come up when talking about Roy Jones Jr. ducking great competition are...

    1.)Gerald McClellan
    http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php...4252&cat=boxer

    2.)Nigel Benn
    http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php...0739&cat=boxer

    3.)Dariusz Michalczewski
    http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php...4141&cat=boxer

    4.) Frank Liles
    http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php...1473&cat=boxer

    5.) Chris Eubank
    http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php...0804&cat=boxer

The thing I don't understand is why do people get angry at Roy for not fighting Gerald McClellan. If you look at his career, he got severly injured in 1995. Roy didn't really have much of a chance to fight him. Roy was just becoming a star when he beat James Toney in 1994. And then Nigel Benn, if you look at his career on boxrec, he lost 3 straight starting in 1996. Then he never faught again. Plus I heard Roy did call Benn to make a fight but Benn never called him back( he was going through a divorce). I also heard in a HBO/Jones interview that Frank Liles was offered a fight with Roy but turned it down. So in my opinion the only fighters Roy should have really faught were Michalczewski and Eubank...the others its not really his fault when you reallly look at it. Also he should have faught Hopkins again but even thats not really all his fault. Hopkins made the negoitations just as hard as Jones did. Maybe some of you guys think Roy sould have faught MCclellan and Benn from 1989-1993, but Roy was just starting off at that point. I don't know if he was ready for that kind of comp. All these guy were not at their prime at the time in which the fights could have happened. Correct me if I'm wrong...I don't know about Benn and MCclellan like some of you other guys do.

Steve Collins is the only guy i consider jones to have ducked, he chased Jones for a fight soo long that it retired him.

I agree there were definitley fighters Roy should have faught. But if you look at the circumstances of some in certain cases, its not all Roy's fault.

a prime roy wouldve beat any of those guys man.. i mean.. roy was just something else.. the gman may win some rounds.. but thats it..

i have a vague memory of this but i remember i think it was one of those guys. That said, if they fight happened OK.. They really didnt need Jones. They thought he was too much to handle. i dont have a link, but i remember someone posting an article about it

I don't know the details, and is hard to just believe one side of the story specially with all the haters and the nuhuggers. But as far as I know, Roy Jones Jr was the most exciting fighter to watch for years and never ducked a fight. He never had a need to duck as fight like for example, GayWeather.

McClellan beat Roy as an Ameteur and I would've like to see RJJ fight steve Collins because he had one of the best chins I have ever seen

woaaah...the G-man woul;d not have won a few rounds n lost 2 rounds to 10,lol...G-man had amazing knockout ability....and the fact that roy was isand foreever will be suspect where his chin is concerned, there is a fair hance that if the G-man connected,Roy would be out for the count. Steward said as much...Roy was Lucky not to Face the G-man in his prime, otherwise that career, and that long unbeaten streak...being P4P....hmmm...i doubt any of that would have happened had he faced G-man and been knocked out on his ass.

I think he would have beaten Benn,Benn was far too erratic ...and lost his cool in the ring alot...jones would have just boxed his hed off.

Collins, just wanted to make a big payday...so he aleld Jones out on almsot every tv broadcast he was on. Collins would have had his head boxed of too..he had no power in his punches, but granted he could take a few. Would have been like Calzaghe Vs Lacy.

I think Eubanks awkward style would have given Roy some problems..it would have been a flip of a coin for me. I think Eubank could have beaten him,and i think Roy could have had Eubank. Would have been a great trillogy if it happened like that. Prime for prime, its too difficult to call, cus Eubank was a clever clever, awkward opponent, with a great chin, and real knock out power...he wasnt exactly slow either. We all know RJJ brings all his skills to the table..and it wouldhave made a great bout.

RJJ should have had Hopkins again, about 3 years ago...any fight now,it just wouldnt have the same feel about it,and would be almost worthless...

RJJ prime 4 prime would have been interesting with Calzaghe. Problem being..i think Calzaghe has got better with age (broken hands not inculded)...and RJJ the oposite..so it would have been hard to ever judge them on a even footing. I would still watch a fight between them now tho..both stil very quick and skilled,i would say Calzaghe's better chin, n work rate gives him the win.
