Mayweather (nearing the end of his career) has many good fighters left that he can pick and choose from and they range from (in my opinion...in no particular order):
Manny Pacquiao - If they could meet at a catch weight it would be a HUGE fight...the top two pound for pound fighters in the world in a PPV bout SHOULD sell big.
Miguel Cotto - This is the most logicial fight for floyd seeing as how miguel cotto is now the undisputed number one contender in the 147lb. division. Another big cotto win would make for a great payday.
Paul Williams- This is the guy who would give almost anyone problems in the welterweight divison just due to his height and reach that are comparable to current heavyweights. Would be an interesting fight in my opinion but probably wont happen unless williams can beat a big name due to lack of money and lets be honest thats what mayweather is looking for.
De la hoya - a rematch wouldnt be totally out of order due to the fact it was a close decision the first time. "The World Awaits Again" would be good for boxing if de la hoya can pull out a win. i doubt this bout would occur due to the fact oscar seems uninterested as does floyd for the most part.
The winner of Taylor/Pavlik - The winner of this bout would be (at least in my opinion) the champion of the middleweight division and would provide a good amount of variety from mayweather who would fight a pretty diverse fight. If taylor wins its most likely to occur due to the fact taylor is the bigger name who scored 2 decisions over bernard hopkins and has fought pretty damn good competition (winky wright, spinks, pavlik, etc.)
if pavlik wins its probably less likely to happen because he would be the new kid that isnt well known (compared to taylor) but he has had wins over miranda and taylor.
mayorga - granted it would (in all likelihood) be a 1 sided mayweather decision but it would make money i guarantee that...between the 24/7 (that would be a must) and the press conferences it would sell itself pretty easily. Mayorga has the best chance to beat floyd at trash talking...in the ring i could see a mayweather UD but would still be exciting due to the possibility of 1 good mayorga punch. so the drama/suspense wouldnt die no matter what the scorecards say. the trash talking though would promote itself like tyson/holyfield.
also a fight against possibly a winky wright or even a bernard hopkins...
these are just some of the fights i see as possible...some of the fighters i mentioned are going to most likely go down as greats of their generation (hopkins, wright, and pacquiao)
Why does the media suck?
After mayweather knocked out hatton i expected to read the sunday paper the next day and see mayweather on the cover of the sports secition but guess what? they didnt mention his win over hatton AT ALL (not even one sentance...in fact you couldnt even tell the champ of 147 and 140 went at it). instead on the front cover of the sports section was a football team.
they didnt make the news...
nothing.
i live in the Bay Area of california and there wasnt one line of it in any local media.
anyone else notice this where they live?
opinions?
thanks.
