Bernard Hopkins: "Mayweather, The Best of My Era"

Light heavyweight champ Bernard Hopkins, who at one time topped the pound-for-pound list, has given praise to Floyd Mayweather Jr, calling him the best fighter of his era. Before Hopkins lost two consecutive bouts to Jermain Taylor, the boxing world would often debate on the same subject: "Who is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Hopkins or Mayweather?" Just watched the fight again and I'm sure Bernard appreciated the lead right followed by the clinch and inside work, looked exactly how Bernard does it and was just as effective as Bernards. Bernard and Ray giving that praise says a lot.

Sugar Ray Leonard, one of the best fighters to ever step foot in a boxing ring, also told the paper Mayweather is the best of his time. Mayweather is often compared to Leonard.

"He's an amazing fighter," Leonard said. "Very economical. It's all about the eyes. He's one of the few fighters I've ever seen, like Muhammad Ali, he watches every move his opponent makes, and capitalizes on those mistakes. That's a gift. You can't teach that. Floyd's number one this era. He's proved that, against Oscar, now against Ricky Hatton. He's fought the best fighters of his era, so that puts him up there. There's a few more fights left in Floyd, and bigger and better things to come."

Floyd put on an absolute masterpiece on Saturday. With other victories like Oscar, Judah, Gatti, Mitchell, Diego, Castillo twice, Manfredy, Hernandez, & an olympic medal its hard to argue against him. Although Roy Jones has a strong case.

Sugar Ray Leonard disagrees. Naw, if Roy ain't get KOed twice in this same era (same year actually), then I'd agree with you.
