There seems to be a lot of disagreement on how Leonard v. Mayweather would have turned out. This match-up has been discussed at some level in a number of recent posts. I wonder if it should get its own separate thread. Personally, I don't see this fight as nearly hard to pick as some of the others like Hearns, Duran or Chavez. I see Leonard-Mayweather as a clean victory (UD) for Sugar Ray. As great as Floyd is, I don't see where SRL comes up short against Mayweather in any category except defense, but that's only because he was a more offensive fighter. Sugar Ray was at least as intelligent as Floyd, he was stronger, and he had faster hands and feet (yes, he did). He was a better overall athlete, and the better overall fighter IMO.

We all know sugar ray LEONARD would probably beat floyd.....But the real question was what do you think about robinson... you think robinson could beat floyd?
in the lamotta fight I just dont see it *(one of his most famous fights for those who don't really watch too much robinson)*
I think floyd would outpoint him. but I like to see what others think.. they may make points that lead to bigger facts to sway me.Comment

Everything that Mayweather does, Robinson does better except for defense perhaps but his chin is superior so that wasn't a big issue for him. I cannot see Mayweather beating Robinson or many other fighters. Robinson knocked out a big middleweight with a great chin in Fullmer, while stepping back and KO'ing him with one punch. That would be along the lines of Mayweather stepping backwards and knocking out Kelly Pavlik cold.
And Mayweather does have heart but not along the lines of many of the all time greats. He would've went for the KO against many fighters when he had the chance, unless this isn't a lack of heart but a lack of killer instinct.Comment

I think Robinson would have to let everything be setup from the jab, Mayweather doesn't like to get jabbed, once Robinson gets th jab going he can unleash some of his awesome combinations and KO Mayweather. SRR would also have a height and reach advantage. I think the jab is the key weapon.hey... can ya explain too me... or tell me what gameplan robinson would use.
I really don't see it.. and I've watched loads of robinson.. *(not all fights he has like 120+)
But imma pick lamotta since thats a famous one everyone has probably saw...
Could he fight like he did against lammotta and beat floyd you think? Seriously.. no sarcasm in this question.
LaMotta had a very different style from Mayweather. LaMotta never stopped coming forward, and had a chin of granite, Mayweather's chin hasn't been severely tested yet.Comment

Ray Robinson name or no name stepped up to light heavy and was boxing rings around the champ.
He is too big, too fast (for his size), and had a granite chin. The left hook he hit gene fullmer with would have put mayweather to sleep. I honestly think because of his size and his skill is atleast on par with Mayweather if not above it that SRR would embaress Floyd.

Man... I dunno i just see floyd moving a whole lot... and slipping that jab. He's not as fast as mayweather and doesn't have superior foot work.
SRR does retain vast power over him.... but you think he'd catch him enough? *(serious)* with all of floyd defense...
And yea the jab would be KEY.Comment

And people have to ask the question, what did Mayweather do that all-time greats couldn't? Nothing. They would've KO'ed Hatton as well but probably easier, beaten Oscar easier, stopped Judah, destroyed Baldomir, etc.Comment

Hey... seems that the majority is saying it would be an easy fight for SRR.
Maybe I'm putting too much on floyds footwork, Defense and elusive abilities.
I'm gonna definitely look into this more now though... thanx for all the input everyone. Gives me something to study.Comment

SRR had speed as well undefeated at welter remember? Watching SRR now his combinations we soo fluid and it was like he knew what was coming.Man... I dunno i just see floyd moving a whole lot... and slipping that jab. He's not as fast as mayweather and doesn't have superior foot work.

SRR footwork wasn't all that bad. It wasn't on mayweathers level but that's because mayweather needs it at the higher weight. I have never seen SRR off balence though but i saw Mayweather off balence in the 1st round against Hatton. And Mayweathers defense well because of Robinson's power advanatage it's very possible to hurt Mayweather through the gloves.
Robinson's jab would open Mayweather up and Robinson would use his left hook to catch Mayweather.Comment
