What happens in boxing if someone punches someone on the throat?

It happens just not as much as you might think. If your not sparring with a person that doesn't know what they are doing, you won't get hit there.

Boxers don't often get caught with a straight right to the throat or anything. Usually its something like a hook to the side of the neck, which still hurts like a sonovabitch and can stun the crap out of someone because of all the veins that run close to the surface. Sergio Mora did it to that Termilksetian guy (or whatever the hell his name is) and it was the punch that lead to the stoppage. I've been kicked in the side of the neck before - trust me when I say that it is almost as bad as getting hit square-on in the throat.
