Mayweather Jr: Undefeated and The Undisputed Best

By Jake Donovan - Mayweather by unanimous decision in a dull, and often ugly, affair.

That was the predetermined outcome from many major outlets heading into last weekend's "Undefeated" PPV show between Floyd "Money" Mayweather and Ricky "Hitman" Hatton . Such an outcome has become the norm for Floyd Mayweather fights in recent years. Such an outcome also suited the agenda most had going in before and angle from which they preferred to cover after the fight.

It provided the perceived obvious (Floyd would justify the 2-1 odds and win the fight), the question raised after old ones were answered (Is being great, good enough?) and Monday morning material for ongoing pound-for-pound debates (can Manny Pacquiao surpass Floyd with a clear and exciting win over Juan Manuel Marquez in their rematch next March?)

Somehow, the world's best fighter became its most predictable, at least in the minds of the media, online bloggers and message boarders.

Hatton was supposed to provide the traveling band, in the form of 16,000 enthusiastic (And at times, beyond tolerable, but more on that later) British aficionados. Check. [details]

When people call PBF a boring fighter they must people who just started watching PBF 3 fights ago. Ill give them the Oscar & Baldomir fight. But to call the Judah, Mitchell, Gatti, Corley, Diego, Hernandez, Manfreddy, & Castillo fights boring you must be crazy.

That fight scares me a little for Floyd, Williams is just so damn big.

              with true greatness looming

Does Floyd Mayweather have the courage to take risks and reach for the top?

He first needs to unify or at least defeat one of his principle opponents at welterweight: Miguel Cotto or Paul Williams. This would wipe away all criticism of his cherry picking opponents. That in itself will propel him up the ATG list and put the icing on the cake. But if he really wants to be one of the best he must take a a big risk. He must travel to 160 and take a belt from one of the recognized belt holders. It doesnt have to be Pavlik, Sturm would do and Floyd could hang his hat with the big boys, walk the walk instead of just talk the talk. I think he has a good chance to pull it off. For Floyd things really get interesting from here on out, that or he goes away but I don think he will be able to let the spot light go.

Looks like most of the writers are now giving Floyd the respect that he deserves. Good ****.

Is it because Mayweather stopped him?

before the fight,i knew mayweather was gonna win by stoppage, but after ,i didnt know all the sites would be uppin him big time saying hes the best of our era and alla that..i havent seen no bad comments about him yet..is it because floyd stopped him? how would it be if floyd won by a decision?

Not that I'm hating on Mayweather or anything like that, I just wished he fought Mosley instead of Hatton. I for one wasn't excited about this match up. Now that he beat overrated Hatton, everyone is acting like he's the greatest boxer ever. And don't get me wrong, I'm not taking anything away from Floyd's victory, but I didn't see what the hype was for this fight. Now if he fought Mosley or Cotto instead, I would give Floyd all the praise in the world.
