Hatton Fans Are Too Funny

Did you see Floyd's holding, elbows, and forearms?? Cortez never raised an eyebrow. Cortez spent the first 4 rounds immediately breaking the fighters up. Cortez was animated and on a mission. He was on Hatton like a rash from the first bell. I've seen Cortez ref many fights and he's never behaved like he did last night. Watch the Hatton-Castillo fight for instance. A totally different ref. Cortez took it upon himself to save American boxing from the Brits, and he fulfilled his duties well. Furthermore, had the fight gone the distance, the judges were standing back up. It's clear that Hatton had to KO Floyd to win the fight at all. Nationalistic impulses intervened to the detriment of the sport. No wonder Calzaghe has yet to fight in America. This is not to say they are exactly fair in Britain..lol. I'm not saying that at all. What goes around comes around. The spectre of the Hatton-Tszyu fight, where Ricky was allowed to do anything to win but pull a knife, came around in haunting fashion last night. I guess you could say that Hatton got what he deserved. Unfortunately, Floyd didn't get what he deserved either.I think thats very biased to say. Floyd was clearly falling out of the ring with his back turned (Hatton actually shoved him thru the ropes) when Hatton tried to land that punch. It was a deliberate foul. Seriously, I don't know how you can say it was absurd.
Did you see Hatton try to twist Floyd's arm in the clinch? Did you see Hatton try to hold Floyd's head down and hit him? There was a lot of things he got away with throughout the fight.
The real question is: Did Floyd need Cortez' help? I would say that he did not. Floyd looked great last night. He stood in and did not "run." I was impressed with that. I just hoped that we would have been able to see those two go at it freely.
It was a good night for Floyd but a bad night for the sport. That's all.Comment

Coming in low is not a foul. Clinching your opponent when he comes in low is not a foul. But holding your opponents head down and hittiing him IS a foul. The clinching was fine, it was the blatant fouls that bothered me.Comment

I'm sorry if you were THAT blinded to interpret the events that way. Because I literally heard Cortez warn each fighter about several different fouls many times.Did you see Floyd's holding, elbows, and forearms?? Cortez never raised an eyebrow. And of course you find a way to defend Tszyu in an argument that doesn't involve him.Comment

I'd say 8 times out of 10.
The ref did spoil the fight a bit. He broke them up too much, got involved too much and really should've warned Floyd about sticking his elbow and forearm in Hatton's throat all the time. But then Hatton should've adapted and should've been smart enough to know that he needed to bring attention to it. If he'dve fallen down in a comedy style when Floyd was ramming his forearm in his throat it would've made the point and the fight might've been different. Thats what Floyd would've and did do, cos Floyd was smarter.Comment
