First of all big congratulations to such a great great fighter Floyd Mayweather. You are worthy of your P4P title.
Next up I think Joe Cortez spoiled what could have been a more intruiging fight and seemed intent on splitting the fighters up as soon as they got close and touched each other. In the first few rounds it was Floyd Mayweather that was holding and ducking under the waist and even rabbit punching but Ricky Hatton was getting the blame for most of this. And after losing a point which was correct seemed to completely lose his head. I do think that Floyd should have been penalised as well and certainly used the elbows effectively to Hattons face which the referee told Floyd on numerous occasions yet did nothing.
However none of these are excuses and just what I saw at the time and had Joe Cortez let them fight instead of constantly breaking them up the fight might have been less frustrating and more enjoyable but WOULD have ended up the same way.
Let's be brutally honest here, Rick Hatton had some minimal success in the first few rounds and he had no trouble closing the gap on Floyd Mayweather and cornering him and getting right on top of him but just was not effective when there. Floyd Mayweathers defense was even better than I thought and Hatton could just not land anything really effective apart from the odd shot here and there.
Ricky Hattons biggest mistake was getting too close to Mayweather, once there he needed to step back half a pace to be able to land some effective shots but just sat on top of him flailing away.
Floyd Mayweather dominated throughout and his lead right hands were devasating especially when your charging forwards at 100mph like Hatton was, and the check hook at the end was sublime to say the least.
Floyd Mayweather desereved the victory he was the better fighter technically and mentally and was I believe just too big for the Hit Man.
Thank you to both fighters who gave it there all and who both conducted themselves with dignity after the fight. Ricky Hatton while completely devastated took his defeat like a man and Floyd Mayweather had nothing but respect for Ricky after the fight was done, and I think this fight meant more than any other for Floyd as he was more focused than I have ever seen him before bringing his A+ game and after the fight with tears in his eyes you could see this meant so much too him.
I hope Ricky carries on but not at Welterweight as he is just not big enough but he is still the best Junior Welterweight in the world. I also hope Floyd Mayweather carries on and cleans out the Welterweight division and then retires undefeated and cements his place in history right alongside Sugar Ray Robinson.
I wish both fighters the very best of luck in the future and thanks again for making this sport the greatest sport there is.
