So you think its ok that Floyd was allowed to do it and Ricky wasn't?

Don't you see that shows the ref was harder on one man than the other?

Cortez got on both guys your ****!

Why not try reading and taking in what is written instead of spouting ****e.

Mayweather was a class act, a class above Hatton both in the ring and in the post fight interview. It was a virtuoso performance and the 8th, 9th and 10th rounds were on a level considerably above anything seen in a boxing ring this side of the millennium.

That being said, the referee was an absolute disgrace and was clearly feeling the pressure much more than anyone else in the ring. It would not have mattered who the referee was because Mayweather would have won regardless but that does not excuse a lambastable performance which is not acceptable at this level.

HE GOT ON BOTH GUYS . WHAT FIGHT WERE YOU WATCHING? HE TOLD BOTH MEN TO FIGHT A CLEAN FIGHT. HE TOOK A POINT FROM HATTON AND RIGHTLY SO. IF IT HAD BEEN THE WAY AROUND HE WOULD HAVE TAKEN A POINT FROM MAYWEATHER ALSO. GUESS CORTEZ TOOK HATTON OUT HIS FIGHT PLAN AND NOT THE WORK OF MAYWEATHER

Obviously Cortez wasn't 100% perfect tonight, I felt he was way too involved. I thought the point deduction was right on, but all the rest of the **** was getting on my nerves.

I also said that Castillo was **** after the fight, even though I thought he would be good, but I don't consider that rewriting history, because I don't fault Castillo on his choice of opponent.

Most of this is no different that saying before a fight that Taylor would beat Pavlik... no one is rewriting history by claiming that Pavlik actually beat Taylor, they are just correcting their original assumptions.

Now to say this **** actually changed the course of the fight to the point that the wrong winner was crowned is a bunch of ****.
I never said that Hatton would have won but for the ****ty ref. Didn't say that. I just pointed out the truth of what happened in the fight. Floyd stood in and did not "run." I give him credit for that. I just hoped that these two boxers would have been allowed to go at it freely. That did not happen. I'm more disappointed in the sport than in Floyd with this fight.

I agree he interfered too much in the beginning, but I don't think it would have mattered.

Hatton was getting caught by Floyd nearly every other time he charged in wide open (ie: The punch that nearly knocked him down once, and then knocked him into the corner post). And if he did happen to get close, Floyd was able to nullify Hatton's inside fight completely while they were clenched. I can't think of a single time he landed his trademark 'rib cracking' bodyshots.

From the first bell, referee Joe Cortez was on Hatton like a rash. But, in spite of the fact that Cortez tried his best to discourage Ricky Hatton's inside attack, the fight remained competitive and close right until the end. It wasn't until about round 6 that Cortez realized that Floyd was "holding" his own so he backed off and let the fight go. All throughout, Floyd consistently applied an assortment of holding, elbows, and forearms that never so much as drew a raised eyebrow from Joe Cortez. But, the first chance Cortez got to penalize Hatton he seized with glee; a disputed shot to the back of the head when Floyd turned his back. The shot barely hit Floyd who then proceeded to put on that he had been hurt. It was a flop and Cortez ate it up. Cortez changed in this fight. His performance was totally different from his handling of the Hatton-Castillo fight. Totally. It was oh so obvious that Cortez was galvanized by his chance to save American boxing from the Brits. Joe Cortez should never be allowed to ref another major fight after that shameful performance. It was worse than anything I've ever seen the much despised Jay Nady do.

But, the fix doesn't end with the ref. Floyd's knockout of Hatton in the 10th at least ended the fight on a fair basis because the judges were clearly in the tank too. The judges had Hatton winning one round at the time of the stoppage. In spite of Cortez' tampering, I had it 5 rounds for Floyd, 3 rounds for Hatton, and one even (the controversial back of the head penalty round 6 which should have been Hatton's round). It is clear that Hatton had to win the fight by KO to win at all. NO WONDER Calzaghe won't fight in America.

Did this fight enhance Floyd's prestige to "all time great" status? I'm afraid not. Defeating the undersized Ricky Hatton with the help of the ref will not compensate for his continued failure to fight true competition. Not surprisingly Mayweather announced that he is retiring to be a promoter now. With the Champion Miguel Cotto, Paul Williams, Vernon Forrest, Mosely, and Margarito out there, Floyd has announced his intention to withdraw from the game. It is a timely resignation because Floyd knows he has nowhere to go now but against THOSE boxers who represent the best in the welterweight division. Emmanuel Steward said Floyd wouldn't make those fights because they involve too much risk. Steward hit the nail right on the head. Instead, Floyd will retire undefeated and make his claim as the "greatest fighter of all time."

                    Exactly as I predicted.

I don't care what any of these ****'s say about your post. I am in agreement with your line of thinking and you made a much better arguement than any of Floyd fans have done in response.

We've only won the league 51 times. Personally, I think Celtic's 41 is a respectable effort. Not quite 51 but hey you live and you learn.
