    What is it about MICHIGAN?

Why has this state produced so many top boxers? It doesn't appear to have a "culture" of boxing (such as Philly, PA).

    P4P fighters out of Michigan...

    Sugar Ray Robinson

    Joe Louis

    James Toney

    Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

It's a tough place to live, not too many options for young people to survive other than boxing or other sports

But there isn't a common bond between those Michigan guys. Except the Kronk with Tommey and Toney.

... a big percentage of the top guys in history are from Michigan.

Those guys dont have a choice.

Not exactly many white collar jobs in Michigan. And for that matter, blue collar jobs either.

You have to grow up tough in Michigan. You just learn that sometimes you gotta smack people around to get what you want. And some make a living at it.

Michigan, and Detroit in particular, was a good economic place for blacks before the auto business went bust.

The southerners moved up there for good-paying jobs on the auto assembly lines. The poverty was MUCH worse in the Jim Crow South.

Not being American, I have somewhet limited knowledge here. If I'm wrong, please correct me.
