Best buildup to a fight you can remember

Thanks Kayjay for the idea from another thread.
What is you're favourite buildups leading up to a big fight.

Does anyone remember the advert for Hagler vs Leonard.

They showed Hagler saying "I got H....U....R....T....written in my mind and that spells HURT" while writing the letters on his forehead, it then shows his clips, it then jumps to Leonard saying "I'm not known to be a powerful puncher I'm known to be a consistant puncher, and if the first doesn't get ya I'll get you with the next one" it then shows his highlights.

I remember being at school and 15 years of age, and everyone was talking about it, which never happened. Boys,Girls even the teachers and none of them liked or knew nothing about boxing yet everyone was talking about it in anticipation.

There have been many great buildups to big fights but for me no fight was bigger than Hagler vs Leonard, considering there were no computers and internet or satelite TV and everyone knew about it and was suddenly interested in this big fight.

No I was jus a kid not even watching boxing..

BUT even though you can't HONESTLY say that Oscar and Floyd didnt have a MUCH MUCH BIGGER build up on a larger scale than any boxing fight in history.

          I mean are you serious?

They obviously has the most televised build up in history... BOXING for once more was at the fore front of sports... ESPN even did a few stories on it.

Whens the last time besides tyson that espn did a story on boxing that wasn't a boxing show.

Biggest build up for me was Delahoya Vs Chavez 1, I was living in southern california and nobody could stop talking about that fight. But I lived in a Mexican American Community so you can see why.

Agree with you, but you didn't read my post properly. Of course they had a much bigger buildup because of the way media has expanded but that's what I'm saying. You never had any of that back then but still everyone knew about the fight and wanted to see it even non-boxing fans.

For me the best not the biggest buildup was Hagler vs Leonard and overall the fight was bigger because of how many people it reached without the aid of satelite T.V or the internet. Had they been fighting now it would be gargantuan.

I liked the build up for the first Eubank v Benn fight. Eubank telling Benn that he belonged to him - I own you. Benn was clearly far too unintelligent to win a war of words with Eubank.

I also loved the build up for the Benn v McLellan fight. The G Man talking a load of rubbish before the fight. Then Benn handed out a dose of JUSTICE and turned him into a drooling paraplegic.
